U expect ur therapist to teach u how to overthrow capitalism or something when u can’t even get out of bed

what if me not getting out of bed is me overthrowing capitalism?

    i think that's a perfectly fine protest.

Most things in capitalism reinforce capitalism

Look at how s*** BetterHelp and all these “alternatives” try to milk therapy culture they’re absolute scum targeting the vulnerable

talk therapy can def be useful to some people although idk about this new trend of treating it like some magic cure all

clinical psychiatry is a separate discussion though, especially when all those meds and prescriptions get involved

i did, she suggested working out/yoga and breathing exercises. great suggestions tbf, yoga especially is f***ing dope. she's still not hip to meditation but i think that goes for a lot of the world.

me having a therapist doesn't mean i don't think the role therapy is playing in society rn ain't sus

like therapy is high-key great but the way it's being absorbed into society feels very much like religion 2.0. i.e. it can be a helpful tool for one to have in their life but that's just about it. sure, there are an exceptional number of people it will save, and it can be applied to many contexts but it in reality cannot serve as the savior for all people that it's being parroted as.

but maybe these are just the stages of how humanity acquires new tools? the initial skepticism ("you're seeing a shrink?") which leads to over-excitement and reliance, which finally leads to it finding it's place in the bigger scheme of things.

maybe one day therapy will go the way of religion, but right now, with the unbearable f***ing unnecessary f***ing weight that capitalism has put on the world, it's actual dope purpose as a tool is kinda being blurred to keep this whole capitalism thing going.

I went to therapy but don’t remember any of it

  • Aug 28, 2022

seen a therapist attempt to help people in private DMs and one that she posted was “The world is unfair to many people so don’t be hard on yourself and remember people have made it out worse”

like they are aware of the conditions but thinks it’s OKAY just cause other lucky people are getting by

I find that meditation is leagues ahead of yoga purely for mental health purposes and yoga also hard af
I think it’s better to have an overexposure to therapy culture because there are many people out there that need therapy and aren’t getting it
A lot of the issue is also people coming in with preconceived notions of what therapy is that are just completely wrong which I don’t fault them for

Mans wake up with bubble guts and blame it on the effects of capitalism

    Get a job

  • Aug 28, 2022

just remember that your average psychologist you see for therapy probably isn't connected to the tiktok/instagram pop mental health bullshit, don't take it out on them

“The world isn’t that bad just take these excessively unstable medications”

i don't think a lot of therapists will just throw you out into the medication world unless you're seeing a psychiatrist for therapy

i wouldn't be surprised if big pharma has an evil hand in the recent mental health awareness push in some way to get more people on antidepressants but can't think of how therapy itself could be negative lol

  • Aug 28, 2022

Good theraphy: I am at peace with myself.

Bad theraphy: don’t know, been very fortunate.

  • Aug 28, 2022

Yes, but that doesn't mean it's harmful for you, the same way a physician helping you might make you a more productive worker, yet still heal your illness.

i don’t, what is he saying?

that a lot of our mental issues stem from capitalist issues (work stress, finances, etc)

and that therapy is there to convince ourselves to be ok with it

  • Aug 28, 2022

Therapists help you cope and adapt to the effects capitalism has on you.

Reinforce is a terrible term to use. If anything, a band-aid to systemic societal problems is more appropriate.

  • Aug 28, 2022

Depends on the context. I don't think people going to therapy is inherently reinforcing capitalism

But then you got s*** like the Amazon mindfulness booths that water down therapy and wellness to keep you going through your shift
