I get the disconnect. You guys are conflating stan culture and artist worship with enjoying someone’s art or music.
People always talk in extremes on here.
There are plenty of artists, introspective or not, who were clearly scumbags and still warrant praise for their artistic contributions.
This idea that positively critiquing someone’s work being an endorsement of them as an overall individual is braindead.
You guys just need to reframe the amount of influence you expect figures to have over you. Have a healthy relationship with art. Art isn’t your identity.
It's sad that we hold on to the art, but that's all we have left when we find out the truths about the artists themselves.
Jay's on the list & people still look at him as the GOAT.
We're desensitized by the art.
Same thing with actors.
All those who are wealthy (aside from a few) are usually scumbags.
I just think Ye's super uneducated in certain realms & gets hyper fixated on a stance when he's going through a manic episode.
Bro just needs to live a healthier lifestyle by taking his mental s*** seriously.
do you think he started the nazi stuff out of nowhere? he was openly MAGA for years before then.
stop making yourself look stupid
nah i didn’t
we just fundamentally disagree about the context of his cognitive faculties impacting the outcome of everything so there’s no point going in circles about it, i wish you a good day and ill see you in the next ragebait thread

it’s so funny that you consider someone saying “no sympathy for nazis, even mentally ill nazis” is ragebait

if he didn’t publicly renounce nazism and take accountability that i’d give slightly more credit to that point

if he didn’t bundle his public apology with the announcement he’d signed to a new PR firm & was dropping an album soon, i’d understand anyone actually believing a word of it

do you think him going to the hospital and taking medication which funnily enough stopped the meltdowns was also a gimmick for the album

nobody’s questioning whether Kanye needed his meds, that was always obvious to everyone but Kanye himself
doesn’t make him any less of a sexually abusive nazi though

I think medication was the issue in the first place

I just think we romanticize art and artists in a way that’s naive and silly.
Art is a product. I know that makes it sound cheaper to a lot of people, but that’s what it is.
Artists are people.
The line everyone will arbitrarily draw for when artist A’s personal shortcomings outweigh their art, is just a dumb meaningless exercise. Everyone will have a different line depending on the bodies of work and what they mean to them.

Kanye doesn’t drop albums on his meds
we’re not getting Bully til he decides to spiral again

this basically
nazism is on the other side of my line, but i understand that a lot of people on this site don’t really hate nazis all that much so it didn’t affect their listening habits
oh 100%, i’m no saint
i definitely wouldn’t call nazism a “questionable choice” though, what is there to question about it?
Not what I was saying lmao
But people have been canceling Kanye long before he went Nazi let’s be real
if he didn’t bundle his public apology with the announcement he’d signed to a new PR firm & was dropping an album soon, i’d understand anyone actually believing a word of it
the world needs the ai generated dark fantasy so it’s okay

Sure, but what about skinheads? Or the confederate flag imagery? Or slavery is a choice?
Some people could draw the line at those points and then you’d be on the other side being painted as not really hating racism. See how arbitrary and inconsistent it is.

etc

rockstar niggas was f***ing actual teenagers
nigga I had through the wire lyrics written on my little back pack I’m not like you little Yeezus goblins I don’t have a choice in the matter of being a fan of this particular artist
Was both a Through The Wire child and a Yeezus Goblin. Never stood a chance

first two can be interpreted as reclaiming hate symbols to strip them of their power
“slavery is a choice” can’t be, that was when i stopped caring about Kanye

I think that’s fair. But it would also be fair if someone interpreted those things as racist dog whistles that went rewarded and became a stepping stone to claiming an identity as a “black Nazi.” So that’s why I don’t really find it a useful exercise to make out someone’s moral perspective based on whether they still listen to an artist’s art. Unless they’re championing the artist’s personal views then I can say yeah you’re a moron. Like if someone likes “Slide” from V2, I wouldn’t say well you don’t have a problem with Nazis it seems. It comes off disingenuous.
ye is honestly ed but i’ll always have love for him and his music, i always hope he gets better and finds peace and if what we’ve heard recently is true, he has come down a bit and maybe started taking meds
