just dropped this video where i talk about a few things:

    why is everyone going country?

why are the mainstream versions of country and hip-hop lowkey kinda similar?

why is the rise of country actually not such a bad thing for hip-hop?
    lmk what yall think

Country milked trap beats and hip hop to gain relevance only right we return the favor

  • Even Monica is making a country album

  • Country is rising in popularity so it’s only natural for the rest of the industry to hop on the trend

no mention of Joanne by Gaga interesting. she sparked the country movement once again in 2016. inspired lil nas x for old town road and on and on. I guess she will be treated like M.I.A and wont be seen as an innovator until years later.

I wonder if Taylor's success plays a role in this.

I realize she stopped dabbling in Country years ago but it's still part of her background and she's a singer-songwriter type of artist which Country tends to be full of.

When Gaga was at her peak with all the maximalist pop tunes and costume designs, you saw a lot of artists trying to be quircky and hop on the EDM wave. Even Calvin Harris said that Gaga's peak helped him blow up in America.

Now that Taylor's on top and winning lots of accolades, artists are starting to go the singer-songwriter route to be taken seriously as artists and appeal to Middle America(who are often a loyal/non-fickle base).

I also think the Country aesthetic appeals to those who are stressed out by the hustle and bustle of today's world and can get lost in a rustic atmosphere and sound in music.

I think this is real. what i touched on in the video towards the end too is that i think a lot of artists are just looking to attach themselves to something hot, and im not saying that in a disparaging way thats just how it is. especially as aesthetics become more and more a part of the listener's experience due to short form video and social media etc. and in the past we saw a lot of people try to fit themselves into hip hop inspired aesthetics or even the music when they didnt rly get it or appreciate it. and now a lot of people are seeing country make a lot of money and realize they have a better shot throwing on a cowboy hat and a jean jacket than they do putting on some chrome hearts or opium fit lol

this obv doesnt apply to beyonce but more for smaller artists choosing their path
