f*** it i'll go country too
Hip-hop spent 10+ years as the zeitgeist. I don't think we have the cultural attention span to do that again.

Started early/mid aughts. Ended late tens. It's definitely a gradient though.
It went from rappers being rappers to rappers trying to break into pop to rappers deciding they weren't rappers. That's the arc. Sell headphones, liquor, vitamin water, clothes. Be an actor. Make a movie. Make a TV show.
10,000,000 Spotify streams get you paid the salary of a mailman. These country artists aren't going to be country artists either. That s*** is over. Music is a ladder to something else.
I’m down. Country was the most wrongly disrespected genre off pure ignorance.
10-15 years ago the default answer for what kinda music do you like was “anything except country” when people never even listened to it to make a judgement on it
Fire ass genre and artists and I don’t mind it taking the spotlight for a bit

the crazy thing is as someone with over 10 million streams its actually still less than a mailman once you account for costs, unless youre completely self produced, do all the art yourself and spend nothing on promo
no mention of Joanne by Gaga interesting. she sparked the country movement once again in 2016. inspired lil nas x for old town road and on and on. I guess she will be treated like M.I.A and wont be seen as an innovator until years later.
old town road was inspired by the meme song lil tracy and uzi made idk about joanne. also I think rap and rnb moving away from being seen as the transgressive genre in the mainstream has more of an impact than any one person could, especially in this case with the current country trend replacing it

I agree. It gets disrespected but I think R&B kind of gets dissed a bit more from my experience. Some cool s*** tho in the genre
