    See this is what I mean yall don’t even really know rap like that. So many rappers from the 90s and 2000s did it as a way to make money just as much if not more than “for the art”

    The difference is labels controlled s***

    So when someone did something original there was no internet that got flooded with 100,000 people copying it

    Know what's funny I just thought about 2008 street rappers didn't really sound anything like 2014 street rappers

    Now compare 2018 street rappers to 2024 street rappers outside the Michigan scene how much has actually changed with how they flow and the production

    And I can imagine (correct me if I'm wrong anyone older than 30) than 2000-2002 street rap did not sound like 2008 street rap.

    It's been 6 f***ing years. The only twist we had to street rap was rage beats. We need something new

    That's why we had a decline in album sales and even flops in other genres like Dawn FM. The last decade was carried by merch not music and artists couldn't fake it anymore

    We not doing this. After Hours is his only album that was boosted by merch sales, and even then it was still one of the biggest albums of 2020 and 2021

    Yeah even without merch it did well I'm just saying Dawn FM didn't have that and we saw a glimpse at his true sales and this was after he got the superbowl stimulus to help boost his career. I hate to single him out because he's not the only one but if you were on ktt at the time it's all that was talked about

    I get what u mean but I think you’re generalizing a little, everything had to be tightly packaged and received well for a rapper to really go back in the day because traditional media had to back you, but ultimately there were a bunch of rappers who were on the same type of time as the young kids now

    Rap has always been just a bag for percentage of rappers
    Especially street rappers

    These guys make more money investing elsewhere tbh in the long run cause it’s a game of being hot

    Bingo. It’s common sense why artists are less motivated nowadays. Rappers were facing an uphill battle 15-20 years ago and really had to bring it

    I mean that’s not really his “true sales”. There’s a myriad of reasons why Dawn FM underperformed, and a lack of physicals is only one of them
