I knew the genre was on its last legs when DaBaby and Lil Baby were the hottest rappers in 2019 and 2020

    Drake saturated the sound too

It also didn’t help that Pop Smoke and X passed away

I think it’s more dismissive to s*** on somebody’s art and mindset because they don’t fit into whatever box you think they should

I’m criticizing the art because it’s lackluster, not because of their motives for making said art. But it can be inferred that the reason for the art being lackluster is partly due to their motives behind it. If they had more of an incentive to perform, they would, like the NBA All-Star Game

And I can imagine (correct me if I'm wrong anyone older than 30) than 2000-2002 street rap did not sound like 2008 street rap.

It's been 6 f***ing years. The only twist we had to street rap was rage beats. We need something new

You can use a Tay Keith beat from 2017 and still make a hit in 2024

imagine someone tryna make a hit off a Jazze phe beat from 2006 in 2012

The art being lackluster is just your opinion. Many would disagree.

Either way it’s lowkey like you’re stereotyping them niggas. Like they don’t care about art as much and they just doing it to make money. That’s so ignorant

it’s funny how everything being accessible has left room for things that are enjoyable to be appreciated regardless of how “old” it is

Trends grow and die so fast now that a trends potential can still be realized way later doing the line
They never really get the chance to properly grow or die imo

Bingo. It’s common sense why artists are less motivated nowadays. Rappers were facing an uphill battle 15-20 years ago and really had to bring it

It’s easier to get an album release now off the muscle of building a following, but good luck getting a second release on a major

Forgot what the outrageous number is of acts that getting signed to the major label system yearly but this s*** ain’t easy so once you’re in sometimes you just gotta take advantage of the moment, especially when you come from less fortunate circumstances

Sometimes it’s f*** the art cause you love your family and wanna bring something more than what you came from and get out the game clean 🤷🏽‍♂️
    Ain’t no shame in that

Genre dead cos mainstream making it about money and sales

Ppl going through s***. Say something, do something truthful. Now country and rock is that place for truth now. Look at how big that In My Town s*** got. Cos he was saying some s*** everyone (from that demographic) could relate to.

    Mr America

I like osamason etc, but its nothing too different about him or the other artist u mentioned to really revive a genre (Yhap imo is diff but is too niche to really argue about)

One thing ive noticed that keeps things alive and interesting is rebellion, its why the soundcloud era was so big because Carti,Uzi etc werent like blog era rappers

But rappers now are basically just Soundcloud era rappers all over again, even from a kids standpoint, imagine calling someone who was into carti when they dropped old while listening to someone with the exact same sound and aesthetics just younger

It would be like if in the 90s,Nirvana was another new wave or post punk band from the 80s

Its also why I honestly think ageism is on the rise, cuz everything the youth is doing rn isnt that diff from that last gen, or even what ppl in their late 20s to mid 30s are doing so ppl are just coming up with ridiculous ways to separate themselves

on the money about the ageism problem

No ones stereotyping anyone, My guy it’s common sense

If you see someone going out of their way to make something that sounds original and also putting effort into everything surrounding the music to make sure it’s presented in the right way versus someone just copying a popular sound and that’s it then it’s pretty f***ing obvious

Also you gonna answer what was yb was doing on that album that was original or just dance around that one?

Those Rappers dying in 2018-2020 was critical to the genre.
Now the Roddys, Polo Gs etc don't hit the same like they used to during pandemic.
We have female Rap thriving like never
before but most of them scared for dropping albums instead they want to drop singles with thirst trap music video. Wish atleast one of them said f*** it here's my album and all girlies can follow that and basically turned the game upside.
Anyways we had a great first couple of months this year for Hip-Hop Rap as compared to last year.

Street rappers losing that creative work ethic is why street rap doesn't get the respect it once did like Busta was a Hood nigga but his artistry was unmatched.

Once being a street rapper or hood rapper meant working with the same producers and not putting work into covers and videos it really killed they crossover ability.

Nothing wrong with working with the same producer or having ‘basic’ videos as long as you actually like rapping

If you listen to any YB interview talking about his music it’s clear that it’s very important/personal to him. But all of that is irrelevant to people like you because he doesn’t fit into whatever box you think he should.

And I already did. He made an album on rage beats. Carti didn’t invent rage music
