I didn’t say that. I was restating what he said

He’s saying Carti making WLR didn’t have anything to do with YB dropping a whole album that sounds like it lol

    Which is just dumb af

That’s not what I said. I said rapping over rage beats != WLR ripoff. That’s such a lazy comp

I've had this theory based on an observation...

Hip hop's decline came almost directly after Chance's album failed and he become irrelevant. He was literally primed to be the next big one up.

    Where tf is he nowadays

    Mr America

I like osamason etc, but its nothing too different about him or the other artist u mentioned to really revive a genre (Yhap imo is diff but is too niche to really argue about)

One thing ive noticed that keeps things alive and interesting is rebellion, its why the soundcloud era was so big because Carti,Uzi etc werent like blog era rappers

But rappers now are basically just Soundcloud era rappers all over again, even from a kids standpoint, imagine calling someone who was into carti when they dropped old while listening to someone with the exact same sound and aesthetics just younger

It would be like if in the 90s,Nirvana was another new wave or post punk band from the 80s

Its also why I honestly think ageism is on the rise, cuz everything the youth is doing rn isnt that diff from that last gen, or even what ppl in their late 20s to mid 30s are doing so ppl are just coming up with ridiculous ways to separate themselves

I actually agree with this 100%, everything that's "cool" now is just s*** i liked when i was 16-21

    Midzy

Street rappers do drill now, probably the worst rap sub genre ever along with the opium rap

The Pooh Shiesty era was a lot better street music

    Horrible take i've gotta say

If this was the actual case, mainstream rap wouldn’t have peaked (popularity wise) in 2017-2018, when Trump was actually in office

That’s just a cheap cop-out to ignore that a lot of this mainstream rap music has been lackluster since 2020

Im not saying mainstream rap is not trash lol two things can be true

The reason why I’m saying that is that it’s more politically tense now than it was in 2017-2018

With the MAGAs being angry at Biden and calling him an illegitimate president you can see why guys like Oliver Anthony are topping the charts with a song talking about how s*** America is

  • Feb 21, 2024
    Mr America

Chance was never gonna make it, and its not even his fault, the world got too bleak to have someone positive like him be the face, i feel its why he was so successful 2013-2016, cuz the world wasnt too f***ed yet, more ppl are pessimistic, and the last thing they wanna do is hear what chance has to say

Chance’s debut failed because he tried to do positive rap and make it trendy

His debut was going to be successful regardless but if he didn’t follow trends and just made good music + selling well on the charts, I think it would inspire some rappers to follow his lead

But since that didn’t happen and he got clowned for the wife bars (they were horrible)
The people naturally turned and gravitated towards the street s*** after every other rap wave (outside of female rap) died off

  • They say this every 10 years and and it still don’t die

I think the most interesting tidbit so far IMO is the music getting slower. It makes sense with the rise of TikTok that songs are getting shorter, but I’m wondering if the rise of “slowed and reverb” is causing artists to slow down their tempos

Natural reversion imo. trends are cyclical.

The person in you avi dropped an absolute smash with popular and that song is in that 90-108 BPM pocket just like it was in the early 2000s
