mainstream hip hop has been truly terrible since like 2020 so it's not really surprising if we're honest

Literally. There is like 2 good upbeat/club smashes per year now when in the 2010's there was like 1 every other month

Everything just sounds like F***UMean since 2020

do you know how many “hip hop is dead” threads featured those same exact people calling everyone out of touch and hip-hop was in an excellent place rn?

when ppl make those hip hop is dead threads they aren't talking abt whether or not hiphop is the #1 genre in the world, they're talking abt how they don't think there's any good rap music still being made.

in 5 years, rap might only be the third most popular genre, but i don't rlly think it's gonna be dead. there will probably still be rappers doing cool s*** and u will probably still be too out of touch to know abt it.

If you listen to any YB interview talking about his music it’s clear that it’s very important/personal to him. But all of that is irrelevant to people like you because he doesn’t fit into whatever box you think he should.

And I already did. He made an album on rage beats. Carti didn’t invent rage music

Ok so he made an album on rage beats and Carti didn’t invent rage music

So again I’ll ask, What did he do that was original?

Hip Hop is going to be fine. People have been saying this for 10+ years now.

I never said it was original. And I don’t think music has to be original to be good. All I said was that the album isn’t a rip off of WLR.

    wtf are you talking about

Almost ever major popular genre has been fine, that’s what kills me the most about all of these discussions lmao

You would think jazz would have ceased to exist entirely the way people talk about the “death” of genres on here

The absolute worst that can happen to hip-hop is that it loses mainstream prevalence and goes underground

that’s what people mean by it’s “dead” or going to “die” though

no one thinks hip-hop is just gonna vanish overnight lmao

there’ll always be an audience for most of these genres

Nothing wrong with working with the same producer or having ‘basic’ videos as long as you actually like rapping

Just rapping isn't enough for a culture to exist and thrive tho in my opinion. Not tryna see rap settle I'd like to see it return to its former glory not in sound but in effort all around.

That's what I really miss is the culture of rap it felt like nothing else

You mean ironically hyping up artists like
Yeat sexy red ice spice would tarnish the genre in the long run?

Hip hop dying because there’s too many unoriginal artists has been the discussion for the last few pages that you’ve been engaging in

The whole reason dudes like yb don’t get respect like that is because they lack originality and creativity, That’s what I’ve been saying and you just admitted he wasn’t original. You don’t see why people would hold artists that demonstrate more creativity in a higher regard? Like you seriously can’t fathom that?

That YB tape you’re talking about is just him rapping on rage beats. It doesn’t even sound like WLR.

And YB is respected. Just not among rap fans like you

nobody in music ever invented anything completely on their own. everyone is influenced by something that came before them.

trying to s*** on carti by saying he didn't create any waves entirely on his own w no influence is dumb as s***

I didn’t say that. I was restating what he said

He’s saying Carti making WLR didn’t have anything to do with YB dropping a whole album that sounds like it lol
