    And I’m all for black men making moves but at some point praising them for getting rich by glorifying/promoting gangs, murders, robbery, d*** addiction, and other themes the black community is largely crippled from is not the flex you think it is lmao. They are not doing anything with their money and fame earned to reverse these trends and majority continue to partake in them.

    Kendrick was just from the hood you’re turning him not being YG or Nipsey into him being from the suburbs which is a whole nother thread on its own
    Drake was a child actor who probably had more money than his mother

    And even if they all came from “daddy’s money” that still would be an oversimplification of the concept that inner city trendy rap acts like YB Meek who look at rap as a hustle/as dope are why we are where we at

    We’ll see how someone like Skrilla pans out but y’all don’t even support interesting or lyrical beyond clever punchlines street type acts

    Street rappers aren't respected as artists to a certain crowd.
    Blog/Nerd rappers aren't respected as rappers to a certain crowd.

    Tyler/Donald/Jpeg/Danny are also usually called artists vs rappers for a good mix of their career as well.

    I can imagine a large amount of street rappers who are forgotten from 1995 and up have gotten similar hate for just rapping for a bag.

    I really don’t think there’s nothing wrong with writing a verses doing it and going “that’s hard” .

    Passion is developed and I think can only be achieved once you hit a certain level

    ktt used to deny this, but now we get to see in a real statistic, thats a HUGE drop in streaming dominance for rap, 58% to 27% in 3 years is absolutely crazy, thats a 50% from drop off in relevance

    top label execs themselves said last year they are no longer focusing on finding the "next" rapper, they are shifting, its a business, and the consumers have spoken. just imagine, back in the day top artists used to have camps of writers (try and deny it but its fax), teams trying to find the next big hit, manufacture them to stardom

    were approaching the halfway point of a new decade and there is no new rap superstars. not a single one. we have kanye still creating noise 20 years into his career, the 2010's big 3 (kenny ghosting us tho) and then add in trav, thats it.

    i guess like all avenues of business, what was once old will always be new again, and raps turn is over.

    True and the bigger thing people miss is hip hop was the biggest genre since the 90s but it just wasn’t reflected because the charts didn’t benefit them or reflect the demographic, so it took until streaming for it to show. But anyone who takes that “hip hop became the biggest in 2017” or whatever it was thing is dumb

    And some people really do go by that and kind of use it to say that hip hop before that wasn’t as universal, I’ve seen it with my own eyes

    i get what u saying but u also need to factor in that hiphop was the first to migrate to streaming off the jump because rap fans started the whole pirating wave that eventually led to streaming

    for example, taylor swift didnt have her entire catalogue on streaming for the longest time until 2017 lmaoo, which is why none of her songs are even like the top 10 most streamed spotify songs OAT, when we know she def got the biggest fanbase

    country fans were still buying physicals and now are starting migrate to streaming (older fanbase)

    so you can see it as hiphop was being surpressed and streaming let it shine, or that hiphop was the first mover on streaming due to fans being generally younger and more tech friendly already pirating music heavy from the late 2000's and early 2010's and now other genres are catching up with physical media finally dying on all fronts

    hiphop was definitely under represented on billboard due to the pirating though thats for sure

    No of course not. But I think there is a growing trend of people doing the first line and not getting far enough or putting enough time to get to your second line in this current gen. Everyone who was poised to do the second part has died in the past 5 years.
