Is no longer seeming to exist in 2021 (well in rap that's released) due to the need of everyone wanting to be "someone that's number one" by copying formulas and literally giving no effort. S*** is mad depressing, I thought 2020 was a dumb generic and stale but damn 2021 has most definitely proven me wrong. With all of the available resources and platforms to reach audiences and create QUALITY, it's just not happening. AND those who give just enough effort become stars and are NOW stars, when the truth is s*** is low quality but better than the generic cookie cutter s*** that's constantly recycled, so it's getting some type of pass in this "clout hungry microwave mainstream era"

Everything that did come out along the lines of these standards of actually being "something" instead of mere attempts is literally becoming outdated as the years pass

somewhere around tumblr era the game accepted aesthetics over substance and here we are

travis is dope but yeah he benefits from being in an era where trap has dominated so anything a smidgeon different than that gets received how he has

    Most Def.

but substance has made a great comeback due to the street rap no doubt

it's just "bland" as f*** like no one knows to do anything else different with it like wtf

Carti dropped a bs ass album and mfs literally had to season themselves into liking it because everything else was cookie cutter

    s*** sad

U make a great point but its a fun word who could blame me

i think the point itt is not worth engaging with just off the strength that it was posted within 24hrs of mach hommy & navy blue dropping insanely creative, thoughtful & cohesive rap albums. these threads to me always feel like they come from those that only listen to the top 10% of successful rappers and complain about it not pushing the boundaries. bro you listen to pop music. nothing wrong with that, but you have to dig slightly deeper and there's always amazing gold to be found... true of any medium thats why these threads dont get taken seriously

dont mean to come off cranky but yea

I mean a decade and a half ago you had Lupe Kanye Outkast Nas coexisting with Wayne TIP Jeezy Ross 50 all in the mainstream

There’s only the street rap equivalent in the mainstream now and it’s way more formulaic than what Jeezy Ross TIP Wayne Boosie used to do

rap is more popular & dominant than its ever been. it holds the belts and nothing is close if you love the genre you gotta love that

but with it comes hegemony, the top is gonna sound bland & commercialised thats just what it is you wouldnt go to denny's and critique it for not being artisanal enough. those top guys play their part & the ones that lean more toward thoughtful, cohesive content play theirs. like i said noone can force people to drink the water we all have access to the history of music as well as every single burdgeoning scene or artist whether its underground or local at our fingertips.

people that wanna hand wring about the state of music instead of soak up history just will never drink it. simple as that imo

Idk, I can say im working on mixing two ep's right now and the artist are trying to make them cohesive.

It's the fist release for both artist and they are finding their sound and figuring out how to make a project.

But they most likely won't get heard by many anyways as they aren't trying to cater to the mainstream and are just trying to make "projects".

So in turn on their next project they may deem it a worthless endeavor, and they will instead of focusing on how to make better projects will spend more time working on making better singles to get heard

I listen to earl, navy, vince etc... that whole lane of rap

outside of vince they don't really captivate me with their energy

I mean earl is cool sometimes but this monotone delivery.... that's not getting it for me but as far as everything else it's fire just doesn't bring me back

And it's not as creative as an experience either

  • May 22, 2021

op wait til u find out about this rising artist named Weiland.... who cares about creativity and a cohesive project.
