did u bounce this through google translate 10 times before posting it what the hell are you trying to say
U make a great point but its a fun word who could blame me
i think the point itt is not worth engaging with just off the strength that it was posted within 24hrs of mach hommy & navy blue dropping insanely creative, thoughtful & cohesive rap albums. these threads to me always feel like they come from those that only listen to the top 10% of successful rappers and complain about it not pushing the boundaries. bro you listen to pop music. nothing wrong with that, but you have to dig slightly deeper and there's always amazing gold to be found... true of any medium thats why these threads dont get taken seriously
dont mean to come off cranky but yea
I agree wit you but there was a time when mainstream rap was creative and interesting too. I think that’s what most of these threads are about. Mainstream s*** doesn’t have to be inherently mid.
Though, at the end of the day, they’re gonna push what sells. If people want to stop hearing mid, then stop pressing play and financially supporting mid!
The majority of the time it's because everytime someone tries to go outside of the box y'all s*** on it. Casuals don't want or care about creativity.
People shat on Yeezus
People shat on TPAB
People shat on Testing
People shat on Big Fish Theory
People shat on WLR
Etc.
And that's just in rap alone.
Yessir
Y’all crave mid and then complain about being served mid. The fact that OP called WLR “bs” shows me where he’s at
WLR slander
That being said I don’t really feel like the game changed all these years, the audience has. Casual fans and gatekeepers outnumber real appreciators of real music nowadays. And since the rise of social media, the majority of these casual fanbases heavily influence the output of the artists. That’s how artists start focusing on charting instead of creating good s***. Also these casuals don’t actually sit down and listen to these projects either, they just spread the loudest opinions on the Internet. A bad review by Fantano can ruin the trajectory of an artist career forever

I just think it’s what comes with being the unanimous #1 genre a guy like roddy rich is a pop star now point blank imagine that kind of music being considered pop in any other era. I think there’s just as much (more) creative output than ever before tho personally which is what matters

You’re not wrong but only about 5 years ago there was immense diversity and solid balance in the mainstream . The mainstream is unavoidable to a certain extent so you can’t blame people for getting very upset with having the same sound drilled into their brain over and over again . The “So and so from the underground just dropped a good album” counter argument is stale because it doesn’t change the fact that pretty much any socially accepted album f***in sucks . Yeah Mach homy and navy blue are fire af but how many times is that gonna make for convo with strangers ? How often are you gonna hear that in the convenience or corner store ? How often are you gonna hear it out of windows driving by ? That’s not a knock on them AT ALL but what I’m trying to say is it’s very unexciting when the only placeyou can have dialogue about your favorite music is with strangers on the internet and it’s aggravating when every public setting has the same atmosphere, musically

Meh I take lil baby & roddy over imagine dragons & LMFAO I understand your point I just think it’s like a give/take thing with the popularity of a genre & I think for the fans of the genre it’s better this way respectfully
I've been on this site for 2 weeks and I feel like I've seen this thread get made at least 10 times
rap is more popular & dominant than its ever been. it holds the belts and nothing is close if you love the genre you gotta love that
but with it comes hegemony, the top is gonna sound bland & commercialised thats just what it is you wouldnt go to denny's and critique it for not being artisanal enough. those top guys play their part & the ones that lean more toward thoughtful, cohesive content play theirs. like i said noone can force people to drink the water we all have access to the history of music as well as every single burdgeoning scene or artist whether its underground or local at our fingertips.
people that wanna hand wring about the state of music instead of soak up history just will never drink it. simple as that imo

I think what op’s saying is true across genres though, a decade ago there were a million s***ty car-commercial-rock bands on pop radio but from that dung heap you got nuggets of gold fairly often, like
Somebody i used to know, midnight city, get lucky, and California girls. Those are all legitimately good songs that did very well commercially, jump forward to now and every no 1 song sounds like it was generated by an ai
The mainstream definitely changed for the worse in the second half of the 2010s
Also you guys are complaining about mainstream music being trash but you don't go out your way to find actual great music by yourselves lol

The user base is aging. KTT used to be the kids who enjoy the music and now they’re the jaded adults who whine about the state of music.

This and the countless threads about Gen Z really make it obvious that the user base is aging
I'm ngl I have no idea what OP is trying to say tho like I've read that twice and I still don't understand

When creativity and quality are passed over in favor of generic trash music as a whole suffers
Artists have to eat and there isn’t much money in the underground at the moment, for many the choices presented are languish in relative obscurity and retain their integrity, make s***ty music to fit into the current landscape, or get a day job
That’s a sad state of affairs imo

the worst part is half the people posting in those threads were born like 1998-2000

I know, but most of the artists making that great music are in the underground making s*** money and that doesn’t sit right with me
