The culture war and stupid identity politics (a lot of idpol is good and necessary but some of this s*** is silly) is just a way for highly educated people to out virtue each other

What matters on the ground is access to healthcare, jobs, investment and labour relations

No one on the street gives a sodding f*** whether you think math is racist (the left) or whether the left want to cancel Christmas (the right).

They just want some f***ing security and relief in their lives

The masses are begging for investment!

Like I said man, it's not about left and right. You see this website lately? It's a microcosm for where we are at right now, an "us vs. them" mentality. I don't care for the person in the video, or her politics. but what she is saying is 100% facts.

    Democrats vs Republicans
    Rich vs poor
    Black Lives Matter
    #StopAsianHate
    Men vs Women
    Gay vs Straight
    Cis vs Trans

All this s*** is reaching a breaking point because no one is providing real solutions, it's just a constant bicker back and forth and this is why these companies can use these issues, by enacting laws that give them power to strip away an individual's rights.

the real solutions are still using the only option the laboring class can in class conflict: striking, unionization and collectivization.

the past 100 years have entirely been composed of the ruling class obfuscating this fact and every other political position trying to coopt it for further obfuscation.

these stratifications in society aren't by accident or even incidental. they are highly efficient in dividing society in any way except class.

Culture war is just a paper tiger to keep everyone distracted or nauseated from caring about economic issues.

If you’re arguing about the gender of mr potato head or something as ridiculous every week, then there’s no place in the discourse for stuff like inequality of opportunity for black people or trans people.

It also reinforces the idea that politics, for most people, is people yelling at each other on CNN. And why would you watch that when something interesting is one channel away.

There is no mainstream social libertarian movement in US politics. It is solely the project of economically secure smallholders, and tycoons who view themselves as smallholders, to clear the obstruction of government regulation. They typically vilify government while completely ignoring the tyranny of the corporation. As is the case with this video. Now there are unwitting people being duped by this who mistake it for something else. At least they are anti-imperial and anti-prison state and such.

If Republicans use local government to close every planned parenthood from West Virginia to Utah. While Democrats do nothing but say they believe that women have the right to choose. What is the difference between most people being unable to access abortion and it being outright illegal?

Its gonna happen either way but on one hand you have the state supporting abortion with funding to clinics and on the other the state pushing it underground. At the end of the day its all about who has the power over individual choice, who gets to say whats right and wrong, that imo is what the culture war is about

There has always been a divide and culture war. This is not a new concept.

What is new is how behind the scenes it's a lot more scarier than people want to admit.

I could go on and on about this but here's a TL;DR in video format, less than 2 minutes.

Which side is more likely to find this video reasonable though

Potholes are filled on tax revenue, and the people struggling aren't struggling because it's an old McDonalds or Walmart or Amazon distribution center. Hell, those businesses are more likely to come to places where they are subsidized by the community. All while they pay their employees poverty wages. You can invest in as many businesses as you want, but the profits are funneled up and out of the community all the same.

Fine. I admit I probably got carried away. But investment in new hospitals, youth centres and schools probably isnt an abuse of the term

Investment implies turning a profit. Those things are funded by taxes that businesses skirt.

most culture war stuff is absolute non-sense from a detached standpoint but real "culture" battles are completely inevitable because of the interwoven nature of modern economics and political action to social discourse. what is ridiculous however is grouping culture wars into a left/right dichotomy when it really isn't, and even doing so within the context of the US itself is misleading

obviously it’s all fueled by the media to their financial benefit; keeping viewers enraged and engaged

but it wouldn’t be as strong without the stagnant 2 party system where if you don’t subscribe to some part of a political platform then you are automatically everything the other part of the binary represents. it’s to the point where socialists are being accused of cryptoconservatism or cryptofascism

  • Jul 28, 2021

like 80% of what’s on cable news is immaterial culture wars and Americans (ppl everywhere really) just eat it up like hogs at the trough. and are just pissed the entire time
