I’ll say it as many times as I need to until y’all stop proposing this dumb hypothetical: we lost Peep, Mac, X, Nip, Juice and Pop pretty much before this decade even started. The trajectory of mainstream rap for the rest of this generation is going to be jarring cause none of these new niggas except Durk, YB and both Baby’s are interested in being the “next” guy

Mac and Nip were not a part of this new generation

    It’s transitional

what we really need to leave behind is motherfuckers coming into every single thread about popular rap talking about 'oh youre just not tapped in' and then linking Griselda and f***ing open mike eagle and whatever the f***

the genre def feels oversaturated to the point where it’s tough to even feel who’s next one coming up

also have to take the international audience into account, i get the vibe that they don’t fw any of these new artists as much as the old ones

But I’m pretty sure most niggas doing the neo-dust thing don’t like what’s going on over on the other side

isn't that what pink siifu kinda tried to do on gumbo? I hear a lot of carti on that album, on top of other influences (wouldn't call it stealing)

  • Feb 18, 2022

    We don’t need superstars

There’s good music out there it’s just not gonna be handed to you

Also you gotta go into it with an open mind, because not only are these rappers career arcs ending but allot of people are still stuck in that era when the truth is the landscape has changed just as much.

There will eventually be someone to fill the role it’s just not gonna happen instantly once someone else’s career fizzes out. The rap game isn’t like a political term lol

Edit: This was in response to a now deleted post calling Jack Harlow a light skin nigga.

    A new sound will rise

Nobody with the current trending production sound is going to the levels of God MC, it's so heavily saturated that it doesn't stand out to casuals

Also the current expectation of constantly dropping music will make it hard for anyone to just take their time crafting a project and achieving Illmatic tier albums

Give it another 5-10 years for a new sound cycle and we'll see where it goes. XXX, Pop, Juice etc all passed away and they were literally all at the top

The reason Uzi’s reception went downhill is because 4 years into his career fans were already screaming “we want 2016 uzi back” 4 years? and people want an old version of you. The worst part is he really started to give in

I used to fw this song heavy lol but you know what you right. Fr durk prob has the biggest chance and has a slight edge over baby cause he can really get into that melodic bag fasho.

i was tellin my boy the other day i think chicago might become the new atlanta. like how it was gonna be in 2012

That’s exactly what I’m saying. Juice, pop, and X all had that combo to become the next “one”. New sound, style, young, and most of all they seemed authentic while having that appeal outside of the U.S.

Juice and X sung more than they rapped. I hardly would even count them especially if people are counting out Doja.
