This is probably one of the best horror debuts in a long ass time, probably since Get Out for me

It’s so smart, and scary, and also really funny. I can see this becoming a classic someday honestly. The actress for Nikki was phenomenal. The s*** she pulls off with just her face alone is so impressive.

I feel like the “more then anyone in the f\*\*\*ing world” really worsened the deal then if he had simply said “I wish she loved me” cause it goes to show how selfish he is as a person. He is constantly making selfish choices throughout the movie, down to his last moments of free will, couldn’t even go through with killing himself. Because his wish came from a twisted place, it only made sense that her personality wouldn’t be the exact same since he wanted a version of her that doesn’t exist

I really love how unlikable the protagonist is in this movie. I mean he’s basically sexually assaulting her throughout the film, pretending to be ignorant that she isn’t herself cause he wanted her all to himself and he finally got that. The scene when the real Nikki talks to him from the bed just proved that, he admitted he only cared about his own pleasure more than her suffering. For a movie with so much horror and disturbing moments, that “why is being with me so bad” line is probably one of the most horrific things in the film.

Even after the person on the phone said you should live for her . It’s conflicting because she does ask him to kill her . However he has the opportunity to go to the shop sooner . Also in the end I don’t know if it was just tricking him but think about it . In the end freaky Nikki says “ okay if we need space that’s fine “ . Which is kind of where he was at the beginning of the movie that brought him to make the wish. Which brought the spirit controlling her to accept the only way he would love her after what she did was a wish of full submission . S\*\*\* even when he goes to see Sarah he jokes he has sleeping pills on him . When he gets Sarah to admit she likes him he finally wants her. When Nikki told him early in the movie Sarah liked him he didn’t care he just wanted Nikki . Even though he had to practice how to talk to her vs Sarah he naturally has chemistry with and she is flirting. It’s also about he was coping his work wife he wouldn’t see at work ( job he clearly doesn’t care about ) . His art he jokes is eating and being paid for it . Eating his steak with ketchup

If we could get Aunt Gladys an Oscar, Inde Navarrette as Nikki deserves 10 of em

where some hate it or think he should be likable or that Nikki should have a happy ending . When again the director has kind of made it clear that the horror is men . This is like Alex garland men but executed where people get it . Those that just view her as a crazy girlfriend miss that he wished for this . He didn’t wish for romance he wished to be loved more than anyone in the world . Again beginning of movie she mimics the cat by sitting in one place waiting . Later she is Sarah . She seems to only truly go off the rails more and more with rejection or territorial . Ironically they didn’t tell bear Ian and Nikki previously dated to help his insecurity. Which is central to the plot . He could have immediately told Nikki “ I need you to wish for this “ and seen what she did . He risked it by giving it to Ian who has his own desires . S\*\*\* he could have at any point had Nikki arrested or institutionalized but he wanted her to still love him only him but didn’t want damage to others . For a bit he was in a utopia so he didn’t care

Need a rewatch before I divulge but it lives up to the hype for sure

I mean he knew from telling people she was having a psychotic break but not taking her to the hospital until she physically attacked herself in public . When she was s\*\*\*ting she pissing herself he didn’t care . I wish it pushed it a bit more of seeing Niki perspective and him realizing he deserved Hell . He did realize in a way though . Front to back he only thought of himself . Even merging his lie with hers of dad cancer . Also the pills he likely considered ending his own life at beginning of movie . Cat can’t open a pill bottle that’s behind the glass . In the end he dies just like his cat in damn near the same location .

Rewatch slapped crazy hard and I rarely rewatch movies but I had to see another crowd react and see all the details after knowing how it plays out

yup hes absolutely the villain. And the scene where he says ‘you were perfect before just… beautiful’ says it all

Even he goes to the store with the goal of getting her a crystal after she loses her on the phone with him . He refuses the crystal that is sunshine . I haven’t figured out purpose of tiger eye . He never gives her the power to wish anything when more than anything she would probably wish success for her book . Even the Niki fused with freaky Nikki wishes for success for bear career that is a joke to him of food critic .

is it really that hard to be with me makes clear he is the villain . I’m confused on how some debate it after that kill me scene . That kill Me scene and would you like to talk to Nikki are the two most painful scenes of movie including assault . Which darkly is followed by the in love montage .

she was saying soon as she left the car ‘u don’t have feelings for me right’ which I lol’d at but was just another example how he knew she wasn’t interested from the start

Can’t wait for the rewatch. Glad this lived up to the hype
