I think this is one of the weaker scripts Aronofsky has had to work with (and he's turned some s*** into gold) but the result is decent because of Fraser's empathetic performance.

At the end, did you come to the belief that Ellie was evil and not a good person? I’ve seen a lot of debate about her character and that she negatively impacted their viewing of the film. I thought it was a clear showcase of the consequence of his choosing to not be a part of his daughters life. He tried to find deeper meaning or justifications in her malicious intents like the first writing being a poem, or her sending the video of the young guy to his family, when it was clear she had close to nothing but hate in her heart. And yet, you could see the emotional turmoil she experienced seeing her father in his last moments.

I came to that conclusion as well, she’s very hateful and pessimistic (with Charlie for good reasoning) but she’s not evil. She’s meant to represent Charlie’s flaws as a person, especially since as an audience we are automatically sympathetic to his situation.

I'm stingy af w the stars I won't give 4+ for something I won't rewatch any time soon I also didn't love the ending here but the highs are really really good
