yeah it was pretty good. its overwhelming for the first episode, but I like the wire for that same reason. not much is happening action-wise but you really gotta catch up with whats going on and who's who
not a huge fan of time jumps bc thats just not my favorite trope to begin with. wasn't there like three or something?
whatever happened to the deuce? that was also made by david simon with a lot of cast from the wire but no one seemed to care.
Bernthal killed the performance
Dude might be my favourite actor since I saw him on the walking dead, pulls off unhinged guys so well

I watched it...it wrapped up a year or two ago and got a proper conclusion...could be the allegations against Franco that turned some people off from the show or the fact that it was centered around the rise of the p*** industry but I thought it was very well made and had a satisfying conclusion all things considered

I checked it out and honestly, s*** was kinda boring
God I love Jon Bernthal
It's a lot going on for a first episode but I love the wire for that. I love that David Simon just throws you into the bureaucracy and the street plotline with no handholding.
Looking at Bernthal roles throughout his career you’d think he is just some dumb meat head but dude went all the way to Russia to learn how to act theatre

I also like that he doesn't rely on sensationalizing or making things more exciting/cool than they should be...for example he'll throw in a shootout or action sequence but it's never over stylized or meant to look like some cool s***...just plays out how things would (usually sloppy...take the scene in The Wire where Avon's people lose patience and try to pull a drive by on Marlo's people only for them to see it coming and Avon's guys are the ones who end up killed...you think it's gonna be some gangster s*** with Cutty and Slim packin heat and they end up just saying "those idiots" and dip lol)...other showrunners would probably try their best to make that s*** all exciting and entertaining but with Simon it's just...show it like it is

i watched season 1 when it was running and it was the slowest tv show of all time. it was interesting though and I might finish it.
finally was able to watch the premiere
great start. can't think of a better team to dissect and portray these societal breakdowns than Simon & Pelecanos
I know it's reductionist to see this as a slightly more modern The Wire, but it's interesting to see how Baltimore has changed yet stayed the same. love all The Wire actors popping up too
so excited to see the rest, shame we can't binge

there's a fun irony in him casting the actor who played Landsman as the police commissioner weird seeing Poot play a cop...less weird seeing Marlo play one since he already did it on Bosch lol

My boy Slim Charles a law abiding senior citizen now. You hate to see it...
Anyone know if that psycho ass Chris is in this? He was my favourite alongside Slim Charles and Cutty
Who in god's name is that? 😭
one of the western district cops, had a small role on the wire but really stands out when you see him in this pilot lol

he was in The Deuce...not sure if he'll be in this one though

might have to watch it
might have to watch it
he plays the pimp Larry...hard to spot initially because he doesn't have the Chris beard and the character is a complete 180 from Chris but he's pretty good on there
Jon Bernthal's character is this guy but with more authority
this dude reminds me more of the Hersl character tbh
finally got to watch the opening episode of this show and man it brought me back to the wire days with some familiar faces, the camera angles and cinematic shots, the opening intro, and the dialogue.
