BlueDreamIt was reported by Kojima this year that the game has sold around 10 million copies to date, so the game was definitely a success .
The subreddit is still really active, and the PC release introduced it to a new audience.
So I'd say that there is a good amount of people who are interested in a new DS game

Yup beat it back in 2020, and currently replaying it on PS5 with the Directors Cut

Mad folks bought the OG game, and when Kojima linked up with Elle Fanning people gif to speculating about what it was for… and even at the game awards the preview got a good reaction, I’d say a lot of people asked for a sequel lol
