I am a white man
I f***ing hate it when people call me the n word, don’t every say that to me again
I would bet my life savings on defunding/abolishing the police never being more than 30% popularity with voters
AND THERE IT IS LOL
Decrease Police Funding. Its that simple to make a clearer slogan which means the same thing without scaring the people it needs to reach
Yes 1000%
This is why dems have such s*** messaging, leftists are giving conservatives ammunition in attack ads
I am a white man

Yikes
Look, while I believe we do need to have police reform (demilitarization, end qualified immunity, decriminalize d**** and s***work, sending mental health & social workers) the slogan itself is f***ing awful
It sounds like something the far right would come up with to scare rural voters, it has the same ring as “the democrats are going to take your guns” To defund = abolishment to these people.
It’s horrible to call it this way, 2020 showed how important getting the votes from suburban moderates are we can’t kneecap ourselves and have this s*** messaging.
I’m specifically referring to the branding and messaging of the slogan, these principles associated with it I mentioned above are important, but call it anything else, please
Eh, not to bad once you consider we've been defunding our schools for a while, and people are "OK" with that.
So what?
As a white man I have to be a maga covidiot?
You know damn well I didn’t say Yikes because of that
😂😂😂
You really think folks who talk about backing the blue and blue lives matter are gonna give you any time of day when you say “defund the police”?
You think those people will give you the time of day regardless of how you dress up the point?
You know damn well I didn’t say Yikes because of that
I don’t, not at all
What you think defunding the police will be a major policy point soon?
OP's uncles and aunts have the thin blue line flag swinging over their porch. F*** outta here
I don’t, not at all
What you think defunding the police will be a major policy point soon?
I do actually from an economic POV
We’ve found under research-led studies that after 60 years of increased budget allocation to law enforcement, crime hasn’t decreased
There’s a second study launched as of this decade. So give it 60 years. It’s an alarming waste of money
EDIT: Oh I misread your question, really: yes it already is
I don’t, not at all
What you think defunding the police will be a major policy point soon?
What rock have you been living under for the last 12 months,OP
I am a white man
I f***ing hate it when people call me the n word, don’t every say that to me again
I would bet my life savings on defunding/abolishing the police never being more than 30% popularity with voters
"I am a white man"
Yep that explains everything
I don’t, not at all

Most people have a distaste for cops. White people have less to worry about than black people, but they still get uneasy when they did nothing wrong and have to deal with the police. Most people would agree that things need to change.
The messaging means basically everything when you’re trying to consolidate these beliefs and feelings into effective action.
If the very idea of decreasing funding for police makes people uncomfortable, in a year where they're rolling these out

then what do you suggest the messaging/policy should be?
People who only started paying attention last summer shouldn't be put over activists and researchers who've dedicated their lives to this out of necessity.
That's what leads to ineffective reform time & time & time again.
Decrease Police Funding. Its that simple to make a clearer slogan which means the same thing without scaring the people it needs to reach
But still overall funding needs to actually be greater than it currently is to implement a lot of these changes to shift from traditional policing
You know the fact that OP is white and saying things like "Defund the police" won't work because it "Scares white people" is the exact reason why slogans like "Defund the police" won't work more than anything.
Maybe you should really a***yze why these slogans created by oppressed groups of people don't work well with those who aren't apart of oppressed groups. Honestly, maybe you should get more mad at those people instead of feeling a way about the slogans that get straight to the point as many other "peaceful" and "respectable" methods haven't been working.
Feel like if you change that kinda "Oh that'll never work!" energy you have towards "snappy" slogans and actually just get behind the slogans because you understand and support the message you'll probably start to see those slogans actually gaining more traction.
You're shooting down a straight to the point no bullshit slogan with an extremely simple message because "It won't work well with rural and suburban white Americans"...hate to break it to you (actually I don't hate it all) but it seems like the biggest issue (as it always often is) are rural and suburban white Americans. Not the slogans/messages.
