Stimulus checks were done through a bill that has a TOTAL budget. They passed the bill with a reduced budget only giving each person $600.

Therefore meeting that ORIGINAL budget, would be adding an additional $1400.

I just don’t see the controversy here.

They pushed the $600 out so they didn’t get caught up debating the $2000 in Congress while people needed money. McConnell was blocking, both parties wanted to use that as fuel for the GA runoff, so they pushed out what was already approved with the intention of getting the rest out. This was always discussed as the “down payment”. If you actually go look into it you will find plenty of articles acknowledging this from a month ago.

Now I get what you’re saying, that even referring to the $600 as a down payment instead of as a separate stimmy and just presenting the next stimmy as $1400 seems like a goofy way to do less and claim you’re doing more.

It’s also funny that this allows Biden a chance to claim that $600 stimmy, when the $600 stimmy actually went out and was approved under Trump. So Trump got us $1800, Biden is offering $1400, but Dems claim Biden is giving us $2000.
