Every few years the ones that were killing hip hop become real hip hop. It all just comes down to old heads not accepting new s***

    Lil Wayne
    2 Chainz
    TI
    Jeezy
    Rick Ross

I see it happening now with 21 Savage & Lil Yachty

Tbf the 2000s had a lot of s***ty music

I ain’t ever s*** on Wayne or anything like that and listened to a lot of southern rap. But I definitely hated on a lot of mainstream music in the 2000s and early 2010s because a lot of it was trash.

Not really a “real rap” phase but I guess it’s similar enough

  • Feb 26, 2022

Yes, when I was in my teens. Only listened to artists like Lupe and Kendrick and J Cole. I remember disliking Future now he’s one of my favorite artists.

made me miss out on weezy prime but when i heard thug harmonizing and lex luger 808s i realized i had to grow out of it

  • Feb 26, 2022

Yeah a handful of kids from my town did it. One was featured on a Wale track

  • Feb 26, 2022

Yeah when I was 13 but not enough to discount what Wayne, Ye, Soulja, Ringtone Rappers etc had going on. DOOM was my ringtone but was vibing whenever I heard “it’s a Nitty beat”

Not at all, the only rap I heard as a child in my suburban household was NERD because it was similar to the other rock music played in my household. I thought rap was incredibly boring and only started listening to it when it got sing songy with Kid Cudi and Drake, I found rappity rap stuff like Eminem and even busta rhymes unappealing.I did have a very cringey anti auto tune phase after growing up on the rock and indie music played around my house.

Definitely when I was a teenager, but I wouldn’t call it a “real rap” phase because that wasn’t my attitude, I just genuinely preferred lyrical rap for that period of time

I haven’t completely abandoned the music from that phase though and I don’t look back at it as a cringe period of time for me I just see it as a necessary period of my music journey

was heavy into Wu Tang, Nas, Gangstarr, Typical Cats, Tribe Called Quest, Dilated Peoples, Rakim

Nah “Real rap” is what you’ll hear come out of the mouths of people that love anything before 2000 or Eminem/Hopsin/Joyner Lucus/Dax/Logic etc.

The real answer is, there’s no such thing as “real rap”. It’s just a buzzword overused by oldheads, nerds, and white people who hate rap aside from Eminem and other white rappers.

Do you like any traditional rap now?

  • Feb 26, 2022

Depends, I’ve had periods of listening to more conscious/lyrical rap but I still listened to the other s*** at the same time just as much

Oh that's disturbing lmao. That's a strong marketing campaign. We always categorized that lane as 'edge lorde' raps
