Once upon a time, all of us was in chains
Homie still doubled down callin' us some slaves
Atlanta was the Mecca, buildin' railroads and trains
Bear with me for a second, let me put y'all on game
The settlers was usin' town folk to make 'em richer
Fast-forward, 2024, you got the same agenda
You run to Atlanta when you need a check balance
Let me break it down for you, this the real nigga challenge
You called Future when you didn't see the club (ayy, what?)
Lil Baby helped you get your lingo up (what?)
21 gave you false street cred
Thug made you feel like you a slime in your head (ayy, what?)
Quavo said you can be from Northside (what?)
2 Chainz say you good, but he lied
You run to Atlanta when you need a few dollars
No, you not a colleague, you a f***in' colonizer

Atlanta always needed Drake the most

Drake's accessibility thanks to his pop rap allowed for mainstream audiences to be introduced to "street rappers" like migos, thug, future, city girls, blocboy jb etc

They both needed each other to push rap further into the mainstream

    this

The narrative that he put these people on is so lame. Drake only collabs with people who are currently popping. He was down with Migos in 2013 when they first blew then when they struggled for a few years he’s gone. Then he’s back after Culture gave them a second wind.

I'm not sure comparing Drake to Ariana Grande, Robin Thicke, and Katy Perry is doing what you want it to, but go off

I’m just trying to point out how in these instances, their appropriation of culture are inauthentic compared to that of Drake. Most of these collaborations were probably phone-ins.

We’ve physically seen Drake go on tour with these guys, have a multitude of songs, studio sessions etc.

It’s not to say that Drake made any of these guys because that would be a stupid statement. But let’s call things spade for spade.

people call ariana a vulture all the time though.

like why would we bother saying robin thicke and katy perry are just cashing in on whatever is trending? its so obvious it goes without saying lol

But that’s the point. If we ignore everyone else’s blatant culture vulture ways but then flame Drake for simply wanting to collaborate and make the best record possible then that just speaks to people’s own ignorance.

It’s really simple. Just keep the same energy.

I only used those examples because it speaks to how these rappers will gladly double their dollars with these pop artists and then develop resentment for the rap nigga when they pop down.

The same way the culture embraced miley cyrus with open arms and then when she discarded and talked down in interviews to then do country music everyone is confused?

if drake was so vital to bringing the atlanta rap scene back, why wasn't he mentioned in that Vice documentary?

yall got to be young niggas, ATL was getting s***ted on in the early 2010s. Thug was labeled gay, migos wasn't even being considered mumble rap, and future was super local.

like i said atlanta was already running the rap game by 2013.

Atlanta has been running the rap game since 2005/2006/2007 (TI, Gucci, Lil Jon, Yung Joc, Jeezy, Waka Flocka ect)

    2013?

atl had future only, thug and the migos were just gaining

  • Jul 16, 2024

If you replace drake with Travis Scott then that Kendrick shot and the discussion is more accurate

In the end drake will go down as one of the most influential musical talents period. No one will ever say that about Kendrick

No one was listening to Hiipower and Money trees saying that's what they wanted to be like but everyone wanted to make best i ever had and marvins room

Because Drake actually took risks by singing and rapping. Before started from the bottom drake was easy target for clowning due to insecure masculinity

Kendrick his whole career has always been living off the fumes that Snoop, pac, nwa etc created

How you say all that with a d*** in your mouth?
