theres a cool community of people who play it to this day but yea that level of phenomenon is tough to pull off now. i think culture might be too segmented for something this universal again

    They’re making a new one

  • Absolutely

  • Short answer yes

    Long answer yes

  • Nah beatmania and ddr did

  • Rock Mudson

I think we forget that those songs were already prevalent. They were used in ads, were big as ringtones, and classic rock radio was ubiquitous. The games def reinforced it for my gen specifically though. And parents were def easily persuaded by it.

Compare it to the dance games like DDR and Just Dance. None of that s*** stuck despite us being extremely impressionable at the time. Rasputin and I'm Han Solo ain't it.

And I still liked rap better despite DJ Hero being a huge failure.

DDR stuck with me heavy tbh, still play classics to this day whereas i play newer stuff on clone hero

  • Rockband basically got me into rock music when I was in middle school, first Rockband game had so many classics

  • 1,000%

Middle School me was heavily into Nirvana, Metallica, Rise Against, Slipknot, etc

  • Clipaveli The Don

I definitely was starting to listen to a lot more rock when 3 came out. The setlist was insane. It put me on ALOT of bands like RATM and Tenacious D too.

    This

No. But the WWE, Madden, Midnight Club & a few other games did

  • Guitar Hero introduced me to Weezer. My life has been cursed ever since.

    Yep.

But Guitar Hero Live even more so. RIP GHTV.

  • Fifa music used to be great

I played GH3 so much that I like Wavegroup's cover versions over some of the originals.

Clone Hero right? I'd do that but it looks complicated to set up.

  • yeah guitar hero put me onto a lot of music i wouldn’t have heard otherwise bc my parents don’t listen to rock music

and honestly as cheesy as it sounds, looking back as a musician now, my first taste of “performing” music and killing it was playing that s*** on hard and expert as a kid lol

only made me wanna do it more in real life lol

Youre the first person on earth to say their music taste was shaped by guitar hero live

what "new" (2018 - onwards) "rock" (or just guitar-driven) music would be on a new rock band/guitar hero game?

i know that the soundtracks had a lot of things from the 90s and previously but they had a fair amount of stuff from the same decade

omggg @op this is great. It def made me so much more open minded to music in general and also put me on to alotta bands. I think this also a attempt to keep rock music relevant one last time in the mainstream and nostalgia but whatevvs

There were some gems lol. Courtney Barnett, In Flames, Alter Bridge, Rival State, Worriers, Black Veil Brides, etc.

I liked the discovery part of the game.
