trolling ban @op
Yes but I believe classism was more prominent back then. Like people more often would acknowledge your class/familial line/status before your race in Europe. They still were racist af, but if you were rich and/or important you'd be treated better and have more rights than the poor.
how did public school fail yall so much man
To be fair it's always been like pulling teeth getting public schools in America to teach about race and its origins
To be fair to OP, racism in the modern, systemic/oppressor and oppressed dichotomy sense didn’t exist prior to the slave trade/colonial era. Before then, practically everyone worldwide was racist but it was more of a defense mechanism of sorts against different tribes rather than a global systemic sense of hierarchy. The concept of a “white man” didn’t even exist prior to the Atlantic slave trade, no one would have thought an Anglo was the same race as a Slav, or a Celt, or a Latin for instance. It was created as a way for the colonialist nations, later America, to justify subjugating a different colored people.
America was founded in 1776.
Slavery began in 1619. Columbus met the original people in 1492.

That is not true. Thats the date slaves arrived on "American" soil
Slave trade goes back as far as the 15th century. Portuguese were heavily involved and dominated movement before any other nation

I understand that however the beginning of America was in 1619 when the slave trade became a process of building America.
Yes thru Dum Diversas the Portuguese made slavery essentially legal.
When it comes to when the trade became an official use of building America, 1619.
racism is the default human state pre-socialization lol
I don’t think so , what about kids growing up in multiethnic neighborhoods? I never had or felt any animosity towards my Hispanic, Ethiopian, Korean friends. We all looked different but I don’t think I even understood what race was until I was like 6.
Reminds me of a dumb girl I went to school with, in the middle of history she asked "Did slaves get paid? Like I know they were slaves but did they get money at the end of the month?"
racism arguably didnt exist till colonial era. but yes it existed before america 💀💀
