the resurgence of american country and conservative politics getting much more aggressive certainly is something though
not to instantly judge every country singer but you know what a lot of those hardcore fans are like
this whole “hip hop is dying” “no rap albums have not topped the charts yet” thread discussion is getting old ngl. like y’all rap is gonna be fine i promise lol
It's very worrying that the genre isn't breeding any new superstars. That doesn't bode well for its future because if Drake retires tomorrow, that's it. Kendrick isn't dropping every year, neither is Cole and both of them may retire soon as well. Who does that leave?
post and presumably travis and uzi droppin soon, first half of the year been slow in the genre
The genre is in an awkward place where a new class of superstars has yet to supplant the Drake-J. Cole-Nicki Minaj-Kendrick Lamar Mount Rushmore of the 2010s.

Austin is labeled pop I’m unsure if Post contributes to hip hop - this year
you know it’s a rough year when the 5 most listened are
ice spice
nle choppa
don toliver
armani white (guy who made that billie eilish song)
NF
i was curious about armani white being up there and figured he scored another hit but nope, billie eilish is 265m out of 295m streams good for him
There’s been plenty of ebbs and flows and down periods in mainstream rap throughout the decades, but for 2023 to be the first year without a single #1 album or song in 25 YEARS when just a second ago hiphop was dominating everything…is much more than just the “new fickle rap fans hopping off” narrative im seeing a lot

oh yeah, i do remember seeing it labeled pop on itunes. first album of his to have it. so yeah you might be right
Haven’t been many major name drops iirc.
Plenty of good stuff from smaller artists, but baring Metro, whose album is a soundtrack, and Tyler, whose album is just a deluxe expansion of an existing album, I can’t think of any rappers who are big enough to have a shot at that #1 that have dropped this year
It’s funny cause this would have been Tyler’s biggest and most successful year if he dropped a full length LP I think
Sad sight.
this image explains the whole reason
Lil Durk the only big commercial rapper there
NBA Youngboy big af too but he drops so much his first week are gonna tank because of it
Also the moneybagg yo project is a mixtape so it didnt have the same push as an album. And Metro a movie soundtrack
All the others arent just #1 in the charts rappers any year
NF
i went to his album page too and the streams are so consistent and balanced evenly throughout all of the tracks. i don't believe i've ever heard a song from em but whoever their fans are go hard

I think so too. I just hope this means he’s spending some extra time to get the next one 100% perfect and it blows us out of the water

its not really that deep. Search and Rescue easily couldve been #1 that lady blocked it. Durk album did 125k first week and went #2 no one else really dropped.
Cause the 5 rappers that go #1 dropped last year or the year before. And the field has been too strong for the other guys who only go #1 on off weeks
