More than being repetitive the music just ain’t that good lol so many flavor of the month hits that are forgotten during this era due to the nature of streaming and social media. The rappers of right now aren’t that interesting and have nothing to say, either. Do you really expect any of the guys mentioned in that tweet to say anything of significance or that they haven’t said a million times already?

Lol at only putting this on the men, though. Feel like mainstream rap ladies literally only have one topic in rap rn

  • Jun 24, 2023

That's another reason why I don't listen to any of these niggas that fans hype up nowadays in the mainstream light. Because they haven't done anything that special to me that makes me go "WOW".

Plus the niggas who are fan of these artists praise tf out of him when they only do the bare minimum on these tracks.

Same thing applies to the women

one of the reasons why mainstream rap is boring now

Care to dive in deeper? I think it gets repetitive but those guys work with each other so much because there's an actual relationship behind the work. They're all friends outside the music s***. That informs not only the chemistry but also the reassurance that if they reach out to so and so for a feature, they'll:
    1. Get a response (on time) and
    2. Get a decent verse back.

That isn't always the case with finding new artists to work with whenever it's time to make a new album.

I remember Rick Ross remarking about how whenever he reaches out to Drake for a verse, he gets a response within a day or two and how he extends the same courtesy to Drake just off their friendship and the respect they have for one another.

I havent kept up with rap in a minute but I feel like most top artists put on newer people but they don't necessarily highlight them in a project, naturally they'd want to push the song with the high profile artists

also who cares, as a fan you have the whole world at your fingertips via the internet,If you really care about music like that then stop relying on cosigns and actually give people a chance.

Nothing wrong with that. My thing is that if the songs end up being dope, who cares? Isn't that what we want at the end of the day? Dope records?

In the same breath, if they worked with new artists and the songs ended up being wack, people would complain still.

  • Jun 24, 2023

I wouldn’t say it hurts the game

But I’m not tryna hear those collabs either, what is this 2017?

What hurts the game is dudes being predictable across the board. Not many taking real chances and this is just one symptom of that

yea honestly i got no problem with the top only working with the top either, like previous posters have said, there's a chemistry between them and it's almost like they're in a band sometimes lol

Been saying this. When CLB dropped it solidified it for me. Drake can collab with anyone he likes but always chooses the same group of guys that never bring anything new to the table outside of Future. You know what the song sounds like before you even hear it

The implication is that if something is super predictable and played out, it’s not dope

S*** has to be somewhat fresh to be dope. Doesn’t help that a lot of the artists mentioned are stale and predictable by themselves anyway

There’s still an audience for that sound but it’s mostly “been there done that” music at this point, tweets like this just show it’s getting tired for some people. It happens

Records by these people will still “work” and maybe be dope to some people but at this point, doing basically anything else would be more exciting

Yeah it’s why I never understood the ire Drake got for working with newer artists.

People called him a culture vulture and now we have the same rotating cast of rappers
