Exactly, this was supposed to be his “passion” project but it literally has no passion behind it.

I thought the album was cool. Neither amazing nor trash.

But I have a question: Is there anything Drake can do that won't be met with some level of backlash?

I mean...Niggas criticized Drake for not pushing the envelop and now it's a problem when he finally does it?

S*** like this makes me realize that, even if Drake were to release a conscious/pro-Black album like some people claim they want from him, he'll get accused of being a vulture/bi-Racial who can't relate/Canadian who can't relate/copying Kendrick/hopping on a wave/etc.

Even more ironic was that there was a plat thread on here complaining about how hip hop today has no danceable music lol.

If drake does anything left field like that they gon say he’s pandering or it’s not experimental enough, he can’t win in some cases

  • S/O to the user who said Drake sounds like he's reading a grocery list to his assistant, guy doesn't sound like he's excited to be on the mic at all

nearly every artist is inspired by sounds they didn’t invent, drake isn’t held to different standards because more people like him

People discredit drake’s artistry because of his corny, ultra normie image. He needs to stop smiling with his teeth, be more mysterious and start wearing kilts/Rick to be taken seriously as an artist

  • Jun 18, 2022

what the f*** is this lol

Drake made the album Virgil woulda wanted. He dedicated this album to his dead friend.

and that's a bad thing? come on lol

All good points. I always saw drake more as an actor and business man than an artist. His feelings do come through at points though. Especially in his earlier music.

Either way. Album is good. I don’t see me coming back to it in 2 years. But it does make this summer a bit lighter and I’ll not mad about it.

What I am mad about is people on online forums that neither have opinion nor want to hear other opinions. Flowing around looking for something to hang on. It’s fine if you do just stop commenting “worst thread”. Waste of space in my brain.

You're first paragraph almost sounds verbatim what underground rap fans on hip hop forums said about Jay-z back in the 2000s.

I used to post on rap forums back then and your critique sounds exactly like what I would read about Hov then lol.

This ain't it, Chief. It's a nice narrative but Drake's "art" is always ALWAYS inauthentic, You said it yourself, It's Drake making a Virgil album. This is Drake once again using his gift for seeing the pulse of culture and taking advantage of it to benefit only himself. Who is Drake? He's a nothing person, CULTURE VULTURE.

Musically it's nothing, It's hollow and you can craft a narrative around it based on Drake's image if you look at this album in a bubble. I'm not surprised by this album at all, It's not as SHOCKING as people make it out to be.
I think it's an issue of the art audience views the artist as a constant, It's why so many artists try to remake and fail by trying to fit the image of their past self instead of remaining fluid.

Drake is an excellent business man, an excellent showman, an excellent performer but he is not an artist, as an artist is a vessel for creation akin to the womb

culture vulture is you just hatin.
