Oh for sure. Hell I loved Aladdin lmao. It made a billi and it’s getting a sequel. Alice wasn’t well received by critics either (worse than Aladdin) but it ended up making a billi and got a sequel. The sequel wasn’t well received and it didn’t make nearly as much as the first, hence no sequel. These films that do well financially will continue no matter what.

If Mulan does great in China, don’t be surprised if that sequel is green lit

I wouldn't do sequels being honest. I think Frozen 2 is the first relevant sequel.

    Just do Pocahontas, Rapunzel, Moana,...

Even Pixar has problems doing sequels outside of Toy Story.

When will y’all realize that these studios couldn't care less about critical reception as long as they make money?

Depends on the movie but yeah they usually don't give one

Even as a self professed Disney fan (the company has a TON of problems but it was my childhood) I don't think everything needs a sequel either. The company has been operating the same since Michale Eisner was in charge.

In the 90s the advent of the straight to video Disney sequel arrived. Aladdin got Return of Jafar (which could make for a solid sequel to Aladdin 2019 imo), Beauty and the Beast got sequels, Cinderella, Mulan, etc.

Each and every one of those movie had sequels and the majority of them were not good. But as those movies flew off the shelves and the company made money, they continued. It's the same thing now, just at a bigger scale. Now, if these live action movies are successful, they either get a theatrical sequel or a Disney+ series.

Disney has great creative sparks but once money is involved, a lot of the time the creativity is stunted.

As much as many people want Disney to fail, they won't. They appeal to people of all ages and their money drivers are families with kids. As long as they stay subbed to Disney+, as long as they go see their movies, as long as they keep going to Disney World, Disney won't stop.

I hope y'all realize that the live action fairy tale remakes aren't geared toward many of us, they're geared towards families. We are not the target audience. This is also why I think the $30 price point for this if fair based on their target audience. For families, $30 is a bargain compared to potentially spending $100 at the movies for 5 tickets plus concessions.

Yeah, this is good for big families or big groups. Specially now with the virus.

But people act like cinemas are gonna close forever cause of this lol. It's just a bad year to be locked in a place with other people, period.

If you like the Disney Parks, the Imagineering Story is a great docu-series. Even though it's by Disney, it doesn't shy away from some of the lower points in the Park history. Waking Sleeping Beauty is great.

It really is, I never knew the turmoil going on before and during renaissance era. Also I know front office changed a bit after Lion King and Jeff stepping down but Disney continued success with Hercules, Mulan I wonder why they didn’t show any of that

Can’t wait till they make a doc on the lead up to revival era

True I wonder how soon they’d start remaking their newer franchises tho depending on if they want to continue doing sequels

I guess they will close Frozen with F3.

I would start with Rapunzel (Tangled was cool) and Moana.

Who is the target audience for these movies

And to be fully transparent yes I hated but l‘m seriously wondering if children would enjoy this over an animated movie? Or if adults would prefer this over the original?

Logically the two audiences are families and nostalgia and I just don’t see how it satisfies either

A lot of kids won't even watch original animated movies because they are "old". Unless you introduce it to them they aren't going to check out our childhood movies by themselves. S*** is considered dust.

I get that but when I was kid my parents were the ones introducing me to what I watched, new or old i wasn’t checking out anything on my own bc they gotta pay for the tickets, rentals etc

I guess kids are entertained by whatever you put in front of them at the end of the day. It just seems to me like they’d like color, talking animals and songs more than this but I could be very wrong
