You guys have probably already seen this so what are your thoughts on his baseless opinion?
i think playing video games for a SHORTER period of time is depression. as a kid i could do like 12 hour COD sessions or random s*** now after like an hour unless the game is really good i get burnt out / hate it and wanna be on my phone
I agree with the sentiment that you shouldn’t let gaming turn you into a loser or a herb. That goes for any form of entertainment especially online but everything extra he said is just
On my days off can play the game for 3 hours, workout then hangout with my friends/significant other, or do some outside activity. And even when coming home from work gaming is a nice unwind after you take care of other things.
If he’s only speaking to those who’s outlet is gaming, his mentality should apply to other leisure activities aswell

yeah cause i’m pretty sure not finding satisfaction in a usual activities/hobbies is a sign of depression. I haven’t been able to do one longer than 3 hrs since TLOU2

I think he means people who sit in their rooms alone for 6+ hours just playing

if you do that then there’s always another day out of the week where you go outside and have a “top 100 moment of your life”. He’s making baseless assumptions based on that very fact. How is he able to judge what someone else perceives as a top moment of their life? We all have different interest and values lol

True,
Every now and then a gaming marathon is fun. I think it becomes a problem when it’s habitual

this is true bc of depression AND TLOU2 has set the bar so incredibly high i’m scared we’re not even gonna get close until GTA VI
You ask me for the 100 greatest moments of my life and I'm falling to my knees instantly
No way playing the game is worse than watching some bullshit TV for hours
Or YouTube, vlad.
This can easily turn into a bad take. Sometimes people just have one hobby they put hours into.
We don't shame people who paint on the side without making it to a side hustle. So why not for video games? As long as someone is a good social human with some exercise there is nothing wrong with gaming.
This take comes from that hustle mindset that's plaguing everyone

An argument can be made that learning an art or skill can be translated into the real world, while spending hours on a video translates to nothing. That’s why there’s a taboo there

True. It's one of those tail end of tech ideas that can't really apply when society collapses like gardening or making clothes.

Video games are also very distinct from regular hobbies. They are generally designed to have as little friction and as much user optimization as possible.
There are definitely some very complex, difficult games but generally physical hobbies are on a completely different plane of challenge and reward.
Some of the best times of my life were hanging out with friends and playing locally. Video games are my primary way of hanging out with my friends in all of our busy lives we can all hop on a party and shoot the s*** while casually playing. This take is so bad it’s not even funny. Dude is a loser
