Does having metaphors and similes in your songs matter nowadays?
It feels like for some time they have been forgotten but when you look at the top selling artist in the game they do still have some metaphors in their songs
On the other hand you can just make good music without having bars now just on how you say things and your sound but is it something listeners look for anymore in rap?
You already know the answer but shout-out to Big Sean for getting roasted and made fun of for the same type of lines that Quavo, Future and BlueBucksClan get celebrated for 🤣🤣🤣
Most of today’s rap game is lyrically far below this lmao
I like bars
Nahh, bars still matter
but today's flows are so dazzling it's hard to even focus on words. A flow is only a flow no matter what, but today's artist are mixing that with substance and getting away with murder
that's why it seems like bars don't matter but if you pay attention a few artist still incorporate them. Gunna is having good bars at times, kevin gates always has bars, lil baby is cool with bars, thug used to be barred up etc. so yeah it's there just not as PROMINENT
Melodies and flow matter more really, that's why the most lyrical rappers aren't poppin' rn and the melodic/street rappers are.
U sound aggressively out of touch
Actually anyone that makes negative generalisations about rap music always does

Why y'all act like anything in rap is pervasive in any way will always, always be beyond me
They matter. Not everyone has to be a Kendrick Lamar to have bars. There was actually a lot more beat riders during the early 10's. These niggas now got hard beats AND they can rap.
Listen to Pooh verse on this. It's hard asf, he spitting, it's just not super complicated which is okay.

Okay dis on the nose
Okay dis on the nose
It seems like y’all just can’t have a simple discussion
Ask Wayne if bars matter
ask Tierra Whack what she thinks
ask any real hip hop artist if bars matter nigga and delete this thread while you at it goofy

I know they matter I’m asking if the listener does looks for bars in today’s game
It depends entirely on the artist and what they are going for. There is a lane for everybody, you can be a singer, lyricist, producer, you name it but you are going to be expected to bring quality stuff for what you do.
It seems like y’all just can’t have a simple discussion
The discussion isn’t worth happening it’s a lot more productive to clown OP to discourage making goofy threads in the future only way we can get better

nah we need this discussion
but what's even more crazy
they got a category at the grammys that reads "BEST MELODIC RAP whatever"
s*** crazy

absolutely, do you understand people are interested in poetry and if you like hip hop i’m sure you’ve tried writing before. someone like earl uses it for therapy. bars matter to the niggas who truly love this s***.
