Don’t know if I’ve seen this thread, just wanted to change it up and see some of y'all thoughts

If you think it can be dethroned, by what genre?

    Genres are kinda dead

But I think the post-r&b stuff that’s been made over the last 5-10 years is reminiscent of the innovation rap had from 2005-2015 that ultimately led to the mainstream run it’s had

it varies a lot so it’s weird to lump it into one genre but people like Frank Ocean, FKA Twigs, The Weeknd, James Blake etc who have roots in r&b but are clearly making music that isn’t r&b are who I mean. There’s plenty of others too but yea I could see something stemming from that - to me those are some of the best and most innovative albums of the decade and have quietly bubbled just under true superstar level (Weeknd obviously not but Trilogy was)

Interesting take don’t know if I’d consider it a genre per say, but I’ll go with it. I’ve peeped that podcasts have been getting more listeners, but feel like they’re too boring (only have listened to a few so don’t have much of a stance). Put me on with some podcasts, I like sports, rap, stocks/crypto/financial freedom, and entertaining conspiracies (if that makes sense)

The notion of “critically acclaimed” music as we’ve known it will die out much quicker, i think thats a more important topic of concern

outside the box take but actually agree theoretically

but genre of music is a more interesting thought

i can feel a resurgence of rock but taking over rap feels impossible
