Or do you think they're fine to stick with what they do, so long as the music remains good?
Future has always made mature music. Don’t confuse a developed sense of humor with immaturity.
Looks corny sometimes except with Future
That nigga a GOAT, he can do what he wants

Age will always catch up though
Never hasn’t, and the consequences only become bigger as time goes on
Some rappers still playing a coke dealer persona when they nearly 50 and some people will still eat it up
No, just evolve
Juicy J rapping about the same s*** since the Cold War but he tweaks it and adds stuff in/takes stuff out with time to reflect where he's at in life while still fundamentally making turn up music about sex, money, and d****. His last album was great because here or there he peppered in some talk about dealing with mental health and fatherhood and isn't rapping about f***ing a million women and doing blow anymore but is constantly high on marijuana and having s***lol
Like if Drake was still rapping about the come up at this stage in his career it would be ridiculous but I also don't need bro talking about balancing checkbooks and voting. Other than those shots at Meg I personally think Drake's doing the 35+ rapper thing well. If Ye didn't go the fuhrer route and make a song about it he'd be in this convo too.
IMO , i think it's all situational. either you can get away with it or you can't.
Image, Music, Themes, etc. It can be all done the "right way", but it if it just doesn't click with the artist, then it goes nowhere.
My take is that I only care about great music lol. Whatever shape that takes is fine with me. Don't get me wrong, it'd be nice if a rapper evolved sonically and tried some new s*** with their flows/cadences but it's not a necessity and they can stick to their content if they can find ways to keep s*** fresh and exciting.
The most important thing to me is that the music remains good.
Yes and no. As you progress through life your experiences tend to change and that's no different with music. When rappers usually fall off it's not because the music or subject has changed it's usually because the audience they capitivate can't relate anymore.
But the no side to that is a person shouldn't be expected to change their music to be based on their life. It's art.
But at the same time again, someone like future being 40 and having a whole thing of being toxic is wack
Rappers do “grow up” with their content
All artists do
It’s just some artists never actually grow up and wanna try and stay young and wreckless

Is this not facts tho?
Who doing to dude or Future for deep thought provoking lyrics? Lmao

This is what I was running to the Reply button to say.
Every song on Honest (recorded 10 years ago) was s*** that will continue to resonate with me when I'm 60 years old.
Maturity is a dumb concept when it comes to Rap some s*** just STINKS. 4:44 is a different type of album that only a old man (who been rapping all they life) could make. It is not a more mature version of Jay Z old music it's a different kind of music. When I'm 50 I'm sure ill still prefer Jay Z old s*** because it's better and from time to time I may enjoy listening to 4:44 just like I enjoyed it from time to time when I was 18.
People don't say Wayne fell off because of maturity they say it because sometimes his s*** STINKS. Carter VI OTW
Nobody needs to do anything, a growth arc is always appreciated though
