IMO , i think it's all situational. either you can get away with it or you can't.

Image, Music, Themes, etc. It can be all done the "right way", but it if it just doesn't click with the artist, then it goes nowhere.

My take is that I only care about great music lol. Whatever shape that takes is fine with me. Don't get me wrong, it'd be nice if a rapper evolved sonically and tried some new s*** with their flows/cadences but it's not a necessity and they can stick to their content if they can find ways to keep s*** fresh and exciting.

Yes and no. As you progress through life your experiences tend to change and that's no different with music. When rappers usually fall off it's not because the music or subject has changed it's usually because the audience they capitivate can't relate anymore.

But the no side to that is a person shouldn't be expected to change their music to be based on their life. It's art.
