the crackers of this site saw doechii existing and their ancestors came out @CliCity

Not at all. And it's a lot of people doing the "Umm that's what a label marketing their artist is 🤓" bullshit tryna act like they don't know what people are talking about when they say the Doechii push has been way more than just simple label marketing.

She's good so I'm whatever about it, but it's very obvious there's been an inorganic push for her by just how blatantly excessive it has been. I've never seen an artist who only sells 11K their first couple weeks of their release get put on a superstar pedestal like she has this year lol

smack voodoo back with another flop comment

There’s been artists who’ve gotten this push without a single album out, just a few songs or a mixtape or two. 50 Cent had a massive marketing push from Aftermath off of 50 Cent is the Future and Wanksta alone. Kendrick got a push off Section 80. Drake too. Jay Z was originally an independent artist.

Before you reply to this post - I want you to define what this push truly is: A few late night appearances, a Tiny Desk push, and a really good album that received acclaim from industry peers and journalists. This isn’t out of the norm for an artist who’s on arguably the hottest record label in hip hop right now, off a tour, and a debut fully fledged mixtape/album hybrid.

Why is that so hard to fathom?

it’s been amazing to watch her take the slow grind process, the album had its biggest streaming day despite being out since august

a lot of artists front load their marketing and give up on the album once it drops.

what you’re witnessing is the marketing dollars not being spent until AFTER the album and tour, meaning that when people are discovering her through performance shows or interviews or whatever it may be, they can go digest the whole album at once. meanwhile her core fans are already loving it so there’s a mix of fan word of mouth, new awareness from people that haven’t heard of her, and people who only slightly heard of her being made into fans

i notice that whenever marketing is done correctly, some people take it as inorganic. usually it’s a bad faith argument. but this is what happens when the label does its job right and has great strategy.

most smart indie artists i know adopt this strategy, after my album i put out 2 music videos, a short film, docu series, did a press run and self produced interview pieces. and that’s just phase 1. i saved almost all the content for after the album
    is out though

  • You just talking to talk. You can’t point to one single thing that has happened to her for you to feel like that. Not one single one.

  • Dec 21, 2024

OP got cyberbullied into changing thread title lol

  • Name one single thing that has happened to her that gives off she is being favorited?

Son literally within the first hour her mixtape dropped it was a bunch of big name artists crawling out the woodworks calling it the best project to drop this year. So many of the hip-hop blogs and Twitter accounts posting it non-stop, and mind you many of them have already been exposed for being paid to post for labels. I don't know why people think this was not done for her. Shorty somehow became a household name in just a couple weeks, and frankly that just doesn't match the sales of those first couple weeks.

It'd be one thing if this was like a slow build throughout the year kinda thing. But this s*** was literally instantaneous. And I know a lot of people will try and do the "Well she had a huge song with SZA! 🤓" as a means to explain it. That song was two f***in years old and I guarantee you the average person was calling that a SZA track and still had no idea who tf Doechii was. In fact, you'd probably find a bunch of people who have become Doechii fans after her tape be surprised that it was her on Persuasive lol

Not for nothing, I'm also kinda curious as to why it's such a big thing for people to admit that Doechii's push has been forced. We've seen this sort of thing a bunch of times and have never had a problem calling it what it is. But apparently when it comes to saying Doechii got that forced push it's wrong and "People just hate darkskin women"

It’s not a big thing - people are gently guiding you out the door telling you you’re wrong on this one. The same level of adamance you have in understanding that the push is “forced” is the same level of adamance that people have trying to tell you this is just good post-project release marketing.

I’ve provided you examples of other major artists who’ve had the same marketing strategy, and your response was (unproven) claims that artists were climbing out the woodwork calling it the best project to drop this year. Beyond a few reactionary tweets, do you have evidence to back the fact that this is anything other than good post-project release marketing, or are you grappling with the fact that gasp you’re late to discover her and how music marketing works?

Fiona Apples last album(which I love) got a damn near perfect critical score. I never once saw someone point out that it was coordinated

Most publication said it was perfect. No one peep from the brigade of people being pushed.
