    Yeah I don't like it

lowkey hate how people constnatly "reinvent" themselves but don't demonstrate or have any of the morals/principles of the movement they're jacking in their art form.

It just pure, bandwagoning aesthetic. But it slaps tho.

    SHOWCASE

This is the same s*** OP just said but with different words lol

It's all for aesthetic by someone who won't even embrace it wholeheartedly

But why are we expecting carti to embrace punk like that? anyone with a sound mind knows that he's lifting from inspirations for aesthetic reasons. He's a popular artist with a "mysterious" look. It's not new. And it may be disappointing for some, I'm not expecting every influence to be carried through to the end.

I don't see how borrowing the surface aesthetic without necessarily committing to its values is the worst thing. Plenty of artists do it. Punk as it originally was went commerical anyway, and the underground scene evolved.

Now, if he started acting like he was second coming of the Punk genre or something, I'd be annoyed, but he's merely translating the aesthetic to fit his own merits.

I agree about his capitalistic slant, although that's a broader issue entirely and one you can't fully pin on him

Also this is a good thread OP. Discussion is needed about this and I think we will be able to explore it further once we hear WLR in full.

I honestly don't mind the capitalistic slant and s*** because rapping about materialism and getting your shine has been in the game for decades, but at least the rappers knew about how f***ed the overall system was, and how we need to go against the power structure.

    His music is cool though.

its obvious that he bites the whole punk "aesthetic ",but the music is good so people dont have a problem with it

you make a decent point OP but you have to realize that it's peak Carti rollout and folk will refuse to reason with anything past "WLR 12/25"

also realize that punk is not necessarily anti-capitalism.

yeah, he's still young so idk if the self-awareness will come with time or not, or maybe he just doesn't care.

you want carti to be political? punk doesn't have to be political lol

  • mr get dough

It fits his music more than anyone else whose done it out of the mainstream rappers imo

And lowkey this somehow. Its bugged out cus his aesthetic works and flows with his music. Hes the only black dude in the game with the aesthetic where doing it some justice as far as making the s*** look cool. Odd future early use to have that aesthetic on lock as far as the atmosphere. That kill people burn s*** f*** school was a wild era.

In all fairness I don’t think being a mainstream/major label artist is what makes it weird, if we keep it a buck most punk bands are complicit in the music industry and not as anti capitalism as they like to act. I don’t think being signed is the antithesis of punk

I do think it’s lame when artists like Carti and Uzi use aesthetics that imply their music is more out there than it is but that doesn’t seem to be what you’re saying. Plus think of all the pop punk which is a contradiction in itself, if white people can commercialize punk then why can’t Carti

    Mind boggling question

Of course, RATM was signed and they were making some radical music for their time, but at least they had actual convictions and beliefs.
