Many people have contract disputes and refuse to release music. What’s your point? Did u read the article? she wants to make music and play video games. She’s not a fan of being a celebrity. “No one is forcing her to make music.”

The point is I'm sure she don't believe or might not actually have the leverage to have a contract dispute. And she probably can't just cancel shows and tours either because I'm sure she'll get sued up the ass for it.

Do (and this is generally speaking to everyone in this thread) you keep this same energy for every superstar that complains about being overworked? Or is it just Doja Cat?

Cause as someone mentioned in this thread earlier you all sound like the same niggas that made fun/didn't take seriously Brittany Spears when she was going through her breakdown.

“I would argue those artist you named had mental problems before becoming successful musicians. “

And KTT aint been calling Doja Cat a weirdo/unhinged for months prior to her “chatroom” incident.

Also congratulations, ppl are allowed to change their minds. When Cardi made that whole long post about thinking she would be happy once she made it and realized she wasn’t, was she b****ing? When kendrick, and every other celebrity make music literally about that same thing since the early 2000s did yall think they was just complaining?

People are obviously able to change their opinions and minds. What they shouldn’t do is b**** and complain while making millions during a pandemic when there is mass unemployment and people stuck working dead end jobs.

I would say this about any artist complaining about the pressures of being a celebrity as being out of touch as this is a career path the picked. The public come with it. However, if they do not like it they can stop at any point.

Brittany Spears situation is not comparable as the free Brittany movement is about the conservatorship and the injustice she face at the hands of her father. It just so happens she’s in the business of music. Doja Cat is complaining about being a celebrity.

Except she’s in an era where she literally could just stream eating snacks and playing video games and at this point (who knows why lmao) still be relevant and have millions of fans/make six-seven figures or more a year just because she’s attractive, “quirky” lmao, and certain niggas is into watching girls to regular s*** on streams. I believe she Lowkey already does this

Outside of finishing out whatever contractual obligations she’s locked into, quite literally she’s in the best position (vs all the other people u mentioned from the past) to stop all the mainstream s*** and just drop her own songs and stream and talk directly to her fans if she even still wants to make music for a living

You can’t expect people to have sympathy for “I’m tired of being creative for a living and taking half naked pictures and getting paid millions of dollars a year for doing so” after a pandemic that people still haven’t really recovered from all the way. On top of all the “just do OF” energy she gon get just because she’s attractive and could probably show bikini pics and feet (I.e. not have to do no “extreme” or degrading s***) and still make 7 figures a year. People is f***ed up out here and shawty talking about wah wah I don’t wanna do photoshoots. UPS is hiring my nigga lol

"Outside of finishing out whatever contractual obligations she’s locked into, quite literally she’s in the best position (vs all the other people u mentioned from the past) to stop all the mainstream s*** and just drop her own songs and stream and talk directly to her fans if she even still wants to make music for a living"

But the thing is, you're underestimating (because no one's gonna leak out the contract) what exactly her contract entails. She could be having a Kanye West-like contract where he aint even allowed to retire even if he wanted to. Which until then, I aint even think that type of contract was possible. So for all we know she could be in an awful situation that without a great ass Johnny Cochran type of lawyer, she aint never gonna be able to get out of.

Like I told bandito, even if she just said stop it to all the tours and the shows and putting out music now to have a dispute, we don't even know if she could afford to do that and deal with the lawsuits. We don't know how much money she's even getting out of her own s*** via contract. She could be in a 360, which if that's the case then I feel really bad for her.

"You can’t expect people to have sympathy for “I’m tired of being creative for a living and taking half naked pictures and getting paid millions of dollars a year for doing so” after a pandemic that people still haven’t really recovered from all the way."

I mean, one that's not what she's complaining about. Career burnout is a real thing, no matter how "ideal" the occupation might be to people that never had to deal with a strict schedule, lack of sleep or sleeping under non-ideal conditions, going from one town to another town to another town in a b2b2b schedule that even basketball players would gasp at (and remember, at least in the NBA, they rest their stars. When you a musician/artist you can't just sit on the bench or "pull a Jeremih"), and having everything you say and do be clocked by millions of people all over the world.

Two, both things can be right at the same time. Workers all over America went through similar burnout, and now we're in the era of the media-dubbed "Great Resignation."

"People is f***ed up out here and shawty talking about wah wah I don’t wanna do photoshoots. UPS is hiring my nigga lol"

Once again, 2 things can be right at the same time. The basis of your argument is that the grass is greener on the other side. Of course from the UPS working nigga perspective it looks great being Doja Cat. And I'm sure that from Doja's current perspective she probably does envy the "normal life" that people get to live (Probably, I don't know.), and it's too late for her to even adjust if she wanted to.

Lauryn Hill gave the mic up for a decade and everyone was talking about she was crazy for giving up her career. When Noname 'retired'/said she was taking a break from music to work on her bookstore this forum collectively (not saying you did but in general) laughed at her lol. So is it oochie wally or is it one mic?

It's almost like you get to a point where

    more money means more problems.

"what they shouldn't do is b**** and complain"

Well I mean sorry celebrities got a mouth so they gonna do whatever they want lol. Sorry they can't just "shut up and dribble"

And s*** I'm nowhere near there yet and just from being in the industry I'm already putting a cap on how much I wanna even have/earn for my own damn self.

  • Nov 27, 2021

At the end of the day, I just hope every artist and fellow musician out there poppin is takin care of themselves man. The evolution of technology while giving people in this field more avenues to get money, it's also fast tracked a looooooot of artists to a height of success that they wasn't used to.

And back then while contracts were really s***ty and artists had no choice, there was at least artist development and labels/managers had to pretend to care. Now these niggas don't care as long as you making them money.

And I just don't wanna see another Mac Miller/Juice Wrld type of situation happen again to anyone else.

This is reason why J Cole retiring after the next album. Industry been abusing the artist so much to the point, they can’t get out from their contract. They are not your friend. They your enemy and will keep using as slave until you die and make money off you.

"In a recent Instagram Live, the Grammy-nominated rapper shared her disappointment in the music industry and said that she has not had fun making music in “maybe five years.” She says that she feels like there is too much unnecessary additions she has to do stating, “I’m doing all this s*** that I don’t f***in’ wanna do. I don’t want to take f***in’ pictures.”

Doja later admits that she does think photoshoots and “capturing a concept, capturing a visual idea” is fun but doubles down on her disdain for it, “Do I want to do that s*** because I have to? No! No, I don’t! But I feel pressured to do s*** like that. I don’t want to do that. I want to be home. I wanna play f***in’ – I wanna make music. I wanna play f***in’ video games.”
label got her slaving for these award shows

Makes me question what that contract look like.

The funny thing is judging by how a good….95% of yall post on this forum (let alone this thread) yall would have a mental breakdown going through just a week of what the average “superstar” gotta go through lol.

I know because it’s Doja Cat no one gonna feel sorry for her and I get that, but it’s mad artists that feel just like her.

Amy Winehouse, DMX, Phyllis Hyman, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Kurt Cobain, and more were making money for generations and still were miserable to the point of partaking in self destructive behavior.

I could see a future where artists/musicians are allowed to take more mental breaks, or tours to not be as massive or long-winded as they currently are. Even for the average musician that goes on these tours, that s*** is fatiguing and exhausting.

Tl;dr: Everyone can’t be Beyonce. Nor should they.

I mostly agree with this. but the thing is, most of these people you mention were rich af and (with the exception of MJ) did have the means to seek help for their mental health issues. the average ktt user doesn’t have that.

I feel for Doja and her situation but really not much more than I feel for the average person who’s overworked and obligated to keep going out of a need to make money. she has the power and resources to seek mental health assistance and find a way to sustain a higher quality of life despite being overworked. Im glad to see artists speaking out about the conditions of the industry but I fail to see how complaining to her broke social media followers is gonna help her situation
