Anime is unfortunately trending in that direction. Especially Toei animated shows. It's a popular medium in Japan.

It’s a real shame there is room for the two to compliment eachother but this style of cgi is just not it

Honestly it didn't look that bad to me. The screenshots don't do it justice. Toei seems to had mastered CGI. They do a great job when it's used with One Piece, mixing 2D and 3D. I don't think 3D will be the norm, but Toei heavily invested into it.

Cell Max is literally just Semi-perfect Cell with Perfect Cell body.
