Drake wouldn't have been the #1 guy during that era either lmao prime 50, Ye, Luda, Jay, TI, Wayne and Em were monsters. Drake wouldve been like a Nelly, still huge but not THE guy.
I don't know that. Neither do you. The discussion is who has the most hits between Jay Z and Drake and the answer Drake. Plain and simple.
The only thing Jay Z had over his peers that out peaked him is that he outlasted all of them, but he was never the biggest rapper in the game. Not even for a single year. There was always someone else in that position.
true
we don't talk about nelly anymore
the game has been washed since early 2010s
ja rule is a joke
50 cent is known for his antics and bizniz these days rather than music
DMX became a crackhead
2pac and biggie died
lil wayne had his era
eminem is popular but washed
kanye west still is popular but let's see where he goes after this gospel theme
jay-z managed to survive 25 years in a young man's genre

Exactly and that's an achievement itself. To be able to outlast your peers and still being a better rapper than most of them after 24 years. Things like that are what make him the GOAT.
HOWEVER, he doesn't have more hits than Drake. Doesn't matter how many ways people wanna twist or bend the argument with separate points. He just doesn't. And that should being about an end to this thread. Every other thing anyone brings up will just dance around the fact that he was never as consistent or dominant a hit-maker as Drake was.
Opinions over statistics of course. Jay said himself men lie, woman lie, numbers don't.
Drake's the greatest to ever do it. He got damn near 8 classic projects in under 12 years, we ain't ever had a run like this.

Hip-hop has never seen anyone have the kind of run Drake is having. Anyone who isn't a jealous hater will admit that.

Kanye West has a better discography
Drake fans can never claim albums only singles don't get it twisted
Last great Drake project was in 2015 and he only had duds since then
obviously he has more hits when he jumps on the hottest wave... Jay isnt the type of to be a wave rider and go for hits... like Drake has consistently been doing
Jay Z wasn't a wave rider?? JAY F***ING Z wasn't a WAVE RIDER? Nigga am I reading your post correctly?!!
You buy your rocks from him too?

8 classic projects? He barely has two. Now if we're talking about classic hits, that's an entirely different discussion.

yeah drake makes pop rap on the highest level
all those other pop rappers like ja rule or nelly only had a 2 year run
drake also has longevity but he is a singles artist
i agree with your sentiment. drake has had more hits than jay-z. jay-z is a rapper rapper. drake is a singer rapper.
if you think drake doesnt have more hits than jay z you are literally an idiot
These niggas can't even list 20 legit Jay Z hits off the top of their heads but all of a sudden he's the greatest hitmaker in rap history

So Far Gone until If You're Reading This is an amazing run
Only a handful of artists manage a run like that in 6 years

Drake isn't a singles artist. Not even close. Kendrick and Kanye are the only two people I'd consider his peers who have a better discography than him but he has a better catalogue than them. So Far Gone, Take Care, Nothing Was the Same, IYRTITL. All classics. People need to stop acting like Drake is out here like Flo Rida who only had hit singles. It's insulting to all he's done.

It is. Drake's days of putting out quality albums are far behind us and it's time to accept it and call a spade a spade.

The last album you mentioned was in 2015.
Drake has only been known for his singles since then. Nobody listens to Drake for deep cuts these days. We listen to him for stuff like God's Plan and so on. He is a singles artist from 2016 until now...
Unless he manages to make another album as good as Take Care

i don't think he has it in him anymore
my biggest fear is kanye doesn't either

Drake has been known for hit singles and amazing projects since Best I Ever Had. Stop trying to change history. The last classic Kanye album was released in 2010. Doesn't mean he doesn't have classics under his belt. Drake has at least 2 classic albums and 2 classic mixtapes under his belt. For someone who you claim is just a singles artist, that's a lot of projects. Most rappers don't even have up to 2 classic projects.

Billie gonna pass drake in top 10 hits within 10 years
That girl got a whole team and industry behind her
i don't think he has it in him anymore

Ye still has a fighting chance to come back but Drake went creatively bankrupt years ago.
Drake doesn't NEED to do anything. He hasn't stopped making good albums. They just don't match up to his older stuff. His legacy is already set in stone. Same goes for other legends who have classics in their bag. They're good. If they make another classic, fine, but they sure as hell don't NEED TO.
You NEED classics in the beginning of your career, to establish a legacy. After that, if you keep churning them out, great. If not, you're still good.
This idea that every single project drops has to be a universally acclaimed classic is ridiculous and unrealistic.
