mangotfluThis was his attempt with CLB, CLB clearly has 1/maybe2 attempts at hits. The rest is him trying to make actually good tracks. There's even a handful of songs on CLB that could have been huge but he added long intros/outros which severly handicapped them

You’re absolutely right with that second point. I’m convinced TSU would’ve been an absolute smash if he didn’t have the long ass intro. Could’ve at least put out a shorter version as a single.
Same with Passionfruit. That should’ve been his biggest ever song imo.

OP he's not like Frank and Kanye but yeah Drake is underappreciated my only issue with him is he's kinda just fell into a pocket where he the music is just boring i haven't felt compelled to listen to anything off CLB aside from love all and tsu and usually i'll play a drake album front to back

He just makes more maximalist version of that style and leans into the mainstream more lol but really they’ll have you believe it’s a case of a pop construction being the biggest artist on earth when it’s more like the best artist being the biggest artist. He reminds me of what the smiths did in the late 80s for indie rock, but like musically drake is in the same ball park as all the “forward thinking” guys
On the sonic and structural level there’s like no difference between a song like toosie side or provider lol
