Bobby_96Sales wise, no rapper is going to top Drake in this decade. That's a given.
But, if we're talking who's influencing the culture the most from inside, Drake really isn't in that conversation anymore.
There's been way more Keef, Wayne, Carti, Cudi, and Thugger influence on 2020's rap than Drake. Jack Harlow's really the only rapper who draws direct influence style wise from Drake.
So, in a nutshell, the rage/hyperpop rappers, street/Drill rappers, Emo rappers, female rappers, and Trap rappers already run the culture. They just don't have bigger sales than Drake for the most part due to Drake having more crossover appeal.
Drake will still put up bigger numbers than most of the new school even if his music declines simply because he has the most crossover appeal of any rapper besides maybe Eminem. And you can't beat that.
But the shift you're referring to has already happened. It's just that Carti and his clones will never have the mass appeal or sales of Drake.

One thing is for sure tho. Drake got mad RnB clones because he fully shifted RnB from the generic love and heartbreak stuff to personal storytelling (Usher started it tho mid 2000s).
So Bryson, HER, Brent, Summer etc pull from Drake.

Free YoungBoyDrake hasn’t really been at the top or been that nigga for a while tbh. He’ll always have the numbers and the “normies” for lack of a better term but Carti been a better and more exciting artists than him for years atp.
Drake don’t move anything. Just follows trends and does his own generic version of it but he puts it on to the normies/mainstream. IDGAF is a perfect example of this

Carti does not and has never made objectively good music. Whatever talk that surrounds him for the five minutes after he drops anything comes from little ass kids or old ass weirdos that are trying their hardest to stay “youthful”.
Neither spend money on music therefore they don’t actually affect anything culturally. Ya’ll live in a bubble on here.

Jan 4, 2024Maybe Carti don't have the sales now but he will. Guys like him tend to grow their fanbase later. Travis Scott was no where near as big in the rodeo/birds era compared to now. I think Carti may have a similar path. I can see him doing atleast 300k first week (maybe not this album but eventually)
