niggas saying drake would be top 3 in 2000s are dumb lol

he would get clowned, even if he was a pop hit. Rap itself wouldn't claim him.

this is the era of wayne & 50, kanye had a hard time selling himself & he wasn't even a "pop act".

    stop it.

Kanye sold 400k,800k, and 900k in the 00s.....

Nelly was a fad for like 3 years and then faded away

Yeah cause they was the gangsta rap era lol Kanye had a hard time breaking through as well. Fact Nelly was one of the biggest for 3-5 years very impressive for those times. And his music has aged tremendously

This is why I think it’s nonsense when Drake stans think that Drake would’ve went diamond in the 1990s and 2000s

niggas act like drake was always in everybodies minds lol

son used to get sorely CLOWNED. it got a bit better with Take Care, but didn't really stop & him being seen as "that nigga" until NWTS

its great being a drake stan now, but it wasnt then

even media personalities used to clown him from what i remember

    yeah? talking perception obviously

and college dropout was not heavily accepted (from what i remember back when my dad & his niggas would talk, & my dad being the only one who actually owned the disc), and kanye has even spoke on it a bit himself.

he still had to "prove himself", & was still looked at as a weird side thing within the genre.

Drake would be pop nelly tier, maybe a big artist, but would not be considered "top 3" within the genre imo.

Because kanye was an average rapper with ghostwriters not because of his music

not true to an extent. average rapper yeah but that wasnt at least the main the reason.

he was looked at as a weirdo for being different in many ways in & out music, & people (in mass) didn't know about his ghostwriters until later on from what i know.

he was dope to the newer "kids" (such as me), but old guard wasn't f***ing with him. & Rappers wanted to just do beats, & thought he wasn't marketable (which was true in some ways, but it appealed to mostly different people).

i'd also say drake is also an average rapper, actual rapping wise.

    Bruh included Kendrick

Fam this ain't that true at all. Yeah he dressed different but that wasnt the main reason. The main reason was his rapping wasnt strong at all in a time where you had to be. Plus he was producer turned ghostwriter

and why do you niggas nowadays acting like niggas wasnt claiming & was making fun of Drake until nwts era outside of internet/young niggas ( i was among them) & radio

"drake the type of nigga" & all that

    All of that is irrelevant
People were clowning drake but still listening to his music
Take care did 660k first week
Even before that tml did 400k first week after leaking 2 weeks early damn near

  • May 14, 2020

    Drake and Kendrick yes

Cole down there in the 30-35 range at best

    disagree

perception wise people weren't claiming him to "be that nigga" until later

yes he still sold & still made enjoyable music for people, but perception wasn't kind.

he was still successful. i was just talking about within Rap itself they werent looking at him as a top guy.

My top 10, taking every factor into account, in no particular order:

    Jay-Z
    Lil Wayne
    2Pac
    Drake
    Kanye West
    Eminem
    Young Thug
    The Notorious B.I.G.
    Nas
    Kendrick Lamar

    bonus picks:

Outkast (would be top 10 if they were one person)
    Future
    Ghostface Killah
    Nicki Minaj
    Maybe Lupe tbh
    Rakim
    LL Cool J

  • May 14, 2020

What impact has Cole made in hip hop? Kendrick and Drake should be top 10 btw. Then op says these 3 have held their own for long when it's just based on the fact that there's no competition for them. Its why Drake has the freedom to make pop s*** and Kendrick and Jcole can go for 3 years and come back as top 5 still.

Mans slipped Cole in there, don't get me wrong he did extremely well commercially and I f*** with his tapes, but there's no way where he's top 10 of all time musically, especially when he's yet to drop a great album.
