Everyone in the music industry has help and co writers and lyricicism changes and sometimes references, it is what is is
Drake is a brand at this point
But at the same time the e amount of artist who vouched for him saying he’s one of the best writers should stand for something too, ye-ross etc
this isn't true btw there's plenty of rappers who don't use co-writers or have ghostwriters. The only difference now is that it's been completely normalized to the point where being exposed for it doesn't hurt your career.
I'd argue Kanye was the first to normalize it in rap but early on in his career he would have his co-writers defend him and downplay their role as writers on his albums because he knew he'd lose credibility if the word got out. It wasn't til later on when him and his co-writers started promoting him as more of a composer or director probably to counter the criticism he was getting for not producing beats from scratch anymore.
I don't think having writers is a knock against him or Drake as artists but it should automatically exclude them from any GOAT rapper list.
We better not hear anymore ref tracks. Especially when it’s rappin drizzy.
i think i feel the opposite but maybe its because im a fan of rnb drizzy more
id rather hear ref tracks for rap hooks etc than hear a reference track for jaded or some s***
whoever supposedly making me hits

Wonder if he wrote that
Bruh I guess I was traumatized back then and thought it was like 2 tracks only…this crazy

I won’t speak about Goat rapper standpoint but major hitmaker stand point you can agree with, as long as he’s crediting them as cowriters. Anyways this is not something that’s new it’s been ongoing for years with drake if it hasn’t hurt his career now it never will
The vibes are off here

There’s like 4 or so Party references out there
Need a 2024 Madonna

Yeah I just think it’s diff with rap cuz it’s about your life and s***. So having someone write like let’s say 9 am in Dallas is crazy. The thing is we don’t know the process of how they do the music. Like is drizzy writing the lyrics and getting people to rap it in style or are others writing full thing and giving it back to him so he can do that himself
From the References we've heard they all have significant changes also none of them were legit file leaks. I believe that was done on purpose to narrow down to the parts Drake used. If they played the whole file or leaked it for real it would show Drake used nothing in comparison to the actual Refs QM sent. I'm speculating however it makes the impact higher because it seems like QM is just handing him incredible ideas from the perspective of playing snippets.
I still question whether reference tracks actually tell who wrote what. For example, I wonder if they send the tracks back and forth making changes.
