Ye was always sample first till Yeezus iirc
That’s what I was wondering. But Ye also said his drums was his weakness
if you have rhythm you can follow the groove of the drum beat while playing keys/chopping samples. it’s like an advanced metronome.
If I'm doing some trap stuff (or anything I want people to turn up to really), I'll start with drums first
Then put a nice lil melody number on top of it
Comment makes no sense huh
Not at all. You can start with any instrument first. Its just a matter of preference
So far ITT most examples point to big producers doing drums first.
Also ITT KTT users claiming that method is wrong and makes no sense
Lmao.

Always figured you had to have some sort of rhythm regardless to make rap beats?
I tried to show my homie how to make a beat and bruh couldn’t even figure out how to put the snares on time
I'm not even a drums first dude, but its funny seeing all the hate for it itt
Lmao it’s as if they hurt that they method is backwards to everyone else
There’s plenty of guys who start sample first tho. I think Kanye does, not 100% sure
If you're making trap it makes more sense to start with drums i'll say that
I feel like any rap or that matter. Boom bap definitely
starting with drums first is how you end up with that atrocious rza beat
You mean starting with doorbell sounds first

you can write in drums patterns and chord progressions based on grid lines, not necessarily play them live. it’s almost fool proof to create beats nowadays. but those who excel have innate rhythm in my opinion. although it can be learned too.
start with whatever tf you want to start with there's no right way to do it, I tend to do drums first but that's just because I love doing drums the most lol
Do you guys usually have an order you like to stick to when doing drums? Like I usually like to start with hihats/snares then work my way down to the kicks and 808s
