No you’re just not creative / talented
Bruh really thought he knew the “proper way to produce” rules lmao
sample and drums get chopped in tandem, then melodies are added
What do you chop first tho? Or are you using samples that already have drums in it for you

usually try to chop the sample so much it doesnt really matter if it had its own drums. and i literally do both at the same time. Like i add the whole section i want to sample, add drum pieces that fit nice with it, then slice copy and paste them together until it's its own thing. my beats are weird tho
I’d imagine someone like Dilla was drums first being that’s what he was heavily known for
Ima just assume 90% or sample based boom bap producers (Dilla, Tip, Premo, Just Blaze, Knxledge, etc. ) do drums first. Except Kanye lol.

Word word okay I feel you. Yeah man it’s all about just having whatever process works for you

i think most people do sample first tho.. like dilla's stuff was so centered around the content of the sample, theres no way he just played drums first and then filled in a sample. same with knx.

Now if you mean they LISTEN to samples first. Then yeah. But as far as what they lay down. Usually they lay down drums first and then chop the samples on top of that groove
What kinda beats you make
Hard hitting, futuristic sounding, king s***

oh i see. im still gonna say i think dilla and knx do sample first, but im just basing that on what i think im hearing.
Wym?
seems like most known producers but especially modern preference drums over melody which is why melodies are so basic now...it works for some songs but I'll take elegant melodies most of the time

First he records the sample into his MPC. He doesn’t record the entire song and then chop like a lot do he takes in piece by piece of which parts he likes. So he gets the samples mapped out of what he’s gonna use.
Then he does the drum programming
After he lays the samples he picked out over the drums
