Bet he’s already close to deaf honestly
not gonna lie, maybe that’s why he didn’t stop the show at Astroworld, he probably had no idea what people were trying to tell him in such a loud environment
my hearing is a little f***ed up tbh. i am an artist and have done a lot of shows and spent years in studios. i get occasional tinnitus. people also tell me that the TV volume which sounds normal for me, is often pretty loud. my airpods normally stay on max volume which still sounds a little quiet for some things.
actual musician here. not a dumb question at all @op. chances are most of them have hearing damage and have tinnitus they prolly disregard. any noise above 85db is enough to damage your hearing over time. if i’m in the studio i have hearing protection w me at all times. s*** i even have that while out and about because the world can be loud. even restaurants have unsafe levels of noise usually.

That’s sad af. We really need to push the idea that mixes should sound good soft, and producers should minimize the amount of time they are blasting s*** into their ears, to the new generation.
any engineer worth his salt knows ur supposed to mix quiet tbh.
the real danger is when ur setup is so clean u dont even realize ur playing sht at a loud volume bc no distortion
p sure theres a 40 interview where he talks abt that

i've heard Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails talk about this. people refer to it as the loudness war, interesting to read about

Yeah, I always keep my headphones at half max at the loudest, because I’m terrified of hearing loss.
I figure if it sounds good quieter, it will sound good louder

Oh yeah, I’ve heard that term before. It’s some Interesting stuff iirc

sadly, i have found that really pushing my monitors to a very loud volume is a super easy way for me to identify the harshest frequencies i need to cut out when mixing and mastering. i'm sure there's an easier way that i'll figure out one day. i'm just figuring my way out as i go along

just listen closer tbh, if it actually needs to be cut out u will be able to tell.
and the "cut out harsh frequincies" method of engineering has serious diminishing returns btw. not worth losing ur hearing at young age for that.

i mean thats not rlly the same sht lol they speaking on compression n dynamic range, abt how loud its gonna sound on radio. not like they were actually turning up the volume more while mixing
mike dean audio terrorist out now

Have you tried searching with a notch in an EQ for the frequencies?
I saw a video that described it as a good way to find troublesome frequencies in a mix.
Like, you make a thin notch, boost it heavily, then move it around while playing your track, and if any of the frequencies get annoying or disruptive while boosted, then you might cut them a little.
Just a suggestion. Hope you find a way that works for you soon

i pray he meant he was already doing that but w speakers up lol

Oh, that makes sense, lol
i used to work at a concert venue doing security next to the stage right next to the speakers before i quit because I would have crazy headaches daily. The ppl i worked with worked for 4 years had insane hearing loss even with ear protectors
