actual musician here. not a dumb question at all @op. chances are most of them have hearing damage and have tinnitus they prolly disregard. any noise above 85db is enough to damage your hearing over time. if i’m in the studio i have hearing protection w me at all times. s*** i even have that while out and about because the world can be loud. even restaurants have unsafe levels of noise usually.

does anyone itt wear earplugs to concerts? should you always do so?
Yes. After I turned 18 I started taking that more seriously. You can only be young and resilient for so long.

coincidentally my friend messaged about wanting to get 'hoop earplugs' today - are those the best at a consumer level or something?

Any earplugs are fine. If you wanted like a cool or easy to remember pack of plugs then those work.

I don't know much about work protection, but it depends on the sound decibels it claims to cover. I assume earmuffs are more industrial, but something is better than nothing.

nigga you not wearing them at the club? that’s basically asking to be deaf. only thing worse is a live show. yeah start doing that asap. i don’t set foot in a club or live music environment without em. i turn the whole ass car around even if i’m literally at the place. that’s how vital it is

uh duh. again #1 way to destroy your hearing. next time you at a show use niosh sound meter on your phone and keep in mind any prolonged 85+dB exposure actively damages your hearing and have your mind blown at the levels you end up seeing

ur right but the mental picture of someone at a concert constantly checking their decibel meter going "oh no this aint good" has me rolling lol
