long live the fighters

it’s coming.
i see a holy war spreading across the universe like unquenchable fire.
a warrior religion that waves the atreides banner in my father’s name.
fanatical legions worshipping at the shrine of my father’s skull.
A WAR IN MY NAME! EVERYONE SHOUTING MY NAME!
this scene always was good but after part 2
ive never seen a movie in theaters more than twice until this movie
$13 70mm tmrw night just seems to tempting not to do
already have the 4k blu ray preordered coming in may hopefully
i honestly was doubtful if they could really do the 3rd act of the book justice, that was my main worry when i heard denis and legendary were making dune into a two part movie
part one was promising but i was trying to not get my hopes up and be let down
i know some hard core dune fans are mad about the 3 major changes they made from the book but i just wanted the battle of arrakeen to look epic + grand and it deliveries that s***

$13 is a steal holy cow
$13 is a steal holy cow

usually $26 but 50% off on Tuesdays
it was insane 5th time seeing the movie but i was so immersed everything was just so bright and massive honestly glad i went before they stop showing it
the film looks more inconsistent than a nice dual imax laser projector setup on the same massive imax screen but it's so bright and the contrast and lighting looked insane
i think with something that is filmed on 70mm like oppenheimer the inconsistencies weren't noticeable cause the film already has them but this movie was shot digital so it's a clean crips digital image, makes them more noticeable
the projector was loud tho, like anytime the score stopped you'd just hear it turn away lol
Final watch tomorrow before it leaves imax
Thank you Villeneuve for giving me a new top 5 ever

$13 is a steal holy cow
i wanted to do 70mm opening night but they wanted $85 before fees
i thought i was buying a family pack of ticket for that price or some s*** had to do a triple take
would have been a cool way to see it for the first time but the smaller imax right by my house was good enough for opening night

denis, hans zimmer & greig freisher adpating frank herbert
obviously everyone else that worked on the movie did a masterful job but the combination of those four really pulled it together for me
has the sound and look to match the book
im in dc, should I go up to Philly on Friday and see it 70mm imax. I know the answer especially with it leaving theaters soon but idk about driving the 2.5 hrs

Airbus IMAX has a true IMAX screen with a dual digital light (DLP Laser) processor projector system
I saw it on a similar screen and idk if I'd drive 2.5 hours for that difference honestly, especially since this movie is digital to begin with
obviously the brightness and contrast won't be as good but you'll get a clean giant perfect image

believe me, I saw it at Airbus lol. on more though I'll prolly just use the 30 bucks for the 4k blu ray

yeah for me the near by 70mm is 20 minute drive vs 5 minutes for a dual DLP setup and it was worth the 15 minutes and if it was a Chris Nolan movie actually filmed on 70/15perf cameras I'd think about driving that long but idk like last night in lower light scenes I was noticing flickering and noise that is more noticeable just cause the image is so digital and perfect
also the 70mm system is very loud compared to a digital system that just sounds like some fans running, took me out of some of the scenes with less noise
but like I said the brightness and the dynamic range of the lighting is def on another level, the last battle looked insane with all that light
My theatre is capable of 70mm I wonder why they didn’t do it
Either way it was an amazing experience

i think there is high cost involved in making the prints and running the projector, more staff & power usage
from my understanding a dual DLP IMAX system has an SSD in an enclosure they stick in and press play
it doesn't have people switching out film reel and timing all that s***
all those moving parts that can break much easier also, high chance of repair and the costs around that
there are 5 70mm near me but only 2 of them showed dune and it was the 2 that had Oppenheimer sold out for months lol
only 12 theaters in the world showed this movie in 70mm
also I think the benefits aren't as huge cause it was filmed on an Alexa 6.5k digital camera to begin with
Oppenheimer was actually filmed on 15perf 70mm cameras which can get near 18k so the sharpness is just on another level, you don't get that here
mainly the benefits are from brightness/contrast, slightly better color from what i noticed

they taxin with that $85 buck charge holyyyy

Got the art books. Thought I share this bit from the first book. You can see the hand on the bigger moon, I don't think anyone missed that. But, you can also see the desert kangaroo mouse on the second one and why Stilgar mentioned that "Muad'Dib" was a constellation. "Muad'Dib hides from the sun and travels in the cool night" is a poetic way to describe a moon, and it's the strategy Paul adopts to fight the Harkonnen.
The art books are great if you are into world building and love little details in costumes. They also hint at cut footage that didn't make it into the final movie. I think after reading what got cut, Denis made the right decision. All the cut footage was cameos of minor characters that would have helped book readers but they would have confused those of us who only watched the movies and other deleted scenes were earlier concepts that got replaced by far better ideas. So the concept of a director's cut doesn't make sense. I just thought I'd share.
Also did anyone catch that the captive atreides soldier that feyd kills in the arena was actually in the first movie as well?
Really shows how much they really connected all dots between the first and 2nd movie

I was wondering did they film this back to back? I didn’t follow the production at all
