    How is this wrong?

Like is there not trap (the sound) and trap (the genre)?

This is literally the modern hip hop climate rn

no. theres trap music and then using trap beats

Only person people actively call a rapper AND a singer is Drake. People even call lil nas x a rapper

That’s just because Drake and Lil Nas are leagues above Anderson popularity wise lol

If Paak was drake levels of popularity he’d get the same treatment

Of trap music? Cmon do not even do that man lmao

it's tru tho, there's sonics and content respectively. they originated and coalesce in several ways but they are also distinct definitions for different contexts

The trap sound u speak of is just southern hip hop. The subject matter made it trap

People need to realize you can use trap beats without making trap music or being a trap rapper

see ariana grande, old town road, or any music that came out in the past 10 years basically

This in itself is saying trap music has a definitive sound, which a lot of people itt are arguing against lol

i am truly curious as to what joints you think paak is like, rapping on
i can't really think of any particular instance where he's just flowing and not singing/songwriting

I really don’t follow the arguments itt

    I agree with this though

No. Trap MUZIK shoutout to Ti and jeezy

Is when you had that sound that was curated WITH the subject matter. That is literally TRAP MUSIC.

    Subject matter is you trapping
    The music/beats is trap beats

    Boom= trap music

But the beats that was forming in trap have became so popular and mainstream to the point it’s in all of pop music damn near. That doesn’t mean it’s trap music. Because wat the f*** is lil uzi trapping? Lmfaooo. Nothing wrong with using the instruments made from trap music but don’t label it as such. What makes it more confusing is that music journalists and white people who label these albums on blogs and sites put “trap” in the genre because of the same reason you do

This is a perfect example of him doing both in one song, separately

people saying it’s not fair to call music using trap beats “trap music

i def think there's some merit to this idea, especially from the perspective of having grown with that music and seen where it came from and having seen it evolve into this highly gentrified monster it's become.

but it's also just like, it is what it is. having an attachment to its origins doesn't make words mean different things
