It kind of is true for other genres
You’re mostly naming acts that have been around for awhile
Other than Morgan, none of those acts are “new”
Where are the new acts from these genres that debuted in say, 2020ish that are doing arenas and selling >200k 1st week
Olivia debuted in 2021…
A brand new artist doing an arena tour the same year they debut has never been a thing. They start off as opening acts. Then do theaters. It takes years before they become establish acts with built up fan bases to tour
Where did I say that a brand new artist should go straight to arenas though
The point was that in 2023 breaking a new act and putting them on course to do that eventually is almost an impossible feat
This thread mentioning Drake being a problem is crazy when him as well as Travis, Future and Kendrick are the ones keeping this at the forefront
And they're a past generation at this point. (Minus Travis)
When drake eventually decides to stop making music these hip hop niggas are going to see just how much of a decline it could be.
He occupies a space within the genre that cannot be filled...by anyone.
the reason why Drake has been in the running for so long is because he’s undeniably a melodic genius when it comes to writing
none of these new niggas do that s*** anymore because they focus on the production to carry them or “using the voice as an instrument” (even though the voice is an instrument) as some of y’all like to excuse it lol
If he's going to put blame on anyone, it should be the "revolutionary" new female rap scene.
These are the same people who claim women are running rap. Well, if there running rap, then surely they are the cause for the decline.
I would say they are bringing great energy like Ice Spice, and Cardi before her. Megan etc.
But really the only artist we've seen have longevity is Nicki. So we'll have to see. But I think Ice Spice has the star power to keep going, Megan too
The world stupid as f*** rn, nobody has attention for new s***
Social media and Streaming fried everyone’s brains
He's right.
Even here in NY radio while it's still mainly rap being played you're also hearing a lot more Bad Bunny and Burna Boy songs at several times a day compared to a few years ago.
Welp this is the perfect time for a paradigm shift. The question is, where do really go from here?
Let’s go back to being creative. Plain and simple. Watch once we get back on a real golden age they are gonna come back.
If Drake’s career started the way it’s going now with albums like her loss he’d be done by now
His identity is still heartbreak Drake to the casual consumer and that’s keeping him on top
Undoubtedly, new acts not being able to pull off find your love hold on we’re going home, nor having the image to pull it off doesn’t help matters

I don’t know why I put 2020 ish I literally meant 2020
Rappers who’s first project dropped around that time
As for other genres, same. Artist who debuted with their FIRST offering in 2020
Because by 2023 they should be on the fast track noe
Like when has rap ever been ran by a past generation?
You had Kendrick, Drake, Future and Cole for the 2010s
Kanye, Wayne, TI, Em, 50, Nelly for 2000s
90s had their own legends
With the 2020s it's STILL Drake, Kendrick, Future, Kanye etc
It's stagnant atm and I think a big part of that is streaming making it extremely hard for newer artists to have any longevity

Yes 100%

only cus it’s weighed down by 21 tho. if it was just drake on Her loss it could easily be a top 3 project of his.

In your opinion (I agree btw)
The album does not have nearly the crossover appeal of his past albums, a critical part of his make up

this would make sense if other artists could pull of a her loss, drake still has a good diversity of sound every album that he’s able to pull off
I know what you sayin but Drake is clearly more seasoned with what people want from him
If a Nigga was hot in his city, and was interesting, a label could invest hundreds of thousands / millions behind him,
Get him looks on TRL, 106, put him on hot 97 and power 106 every hour, buy a hot feature, and create a star
That absolutely is a monoculture that doesn’t exist anymore
was everyday struggle the last monoculture platform in hip hop?

hip-hop is indubitably a hyper-masculine, male-focused genre my guy
the fact that the new female rap scene is arguably interesting if not more entertaining or whatever the f***, they’re a symptom of the health of the genre overall which is #NOTGOOD lol

I think other artists have pulled off her loss though
I love her loss, think it’s a top 4 record in his discography, but it’s 100% an album that 21/baby/smirk could make even if it wouldn’t be ‘as’ good
