Why would they s*** sucks the rappers aren't appealing and the music isn't appealing to anyone but Hip Hop fans

and the multifaceted niggas that can appeal to multiple genres are either independent or these "high intelligent ceos" don't know how to market niggas like Kenny Mason or Smino.

    like c'mon bruh

And Ebro is one to talk lol.

Can we admit Drake's awful influence on the genre now

White people finding something else to listen to seems great to me

    Lamar

Also why are we forgetting baby keem exist he is artistic and skilled enough to carry and influence

    Kendrick’s cousin plain and simple

We wouldn’t have heard him on a Ye album if he wasn’t

  • Last longform point on this

My biggest argument is that...the music is out there. The idea that rap music is boring and not creative enough just doesn't pass the smell test for me for that reason.

I think then, in regards to Ebro and what he said in the OP tweet, it has wayyyyy more to do with the fact that in America now, it's harder than ever to create and build a new artist to the level of a Bad Bunny, Pleso, etc. because culture is soooo segmented. Everyone is listening to their own podcasts, their own playlists, that isn't the case nearly as much in other countries and genres outside of the U.S.

As a result, yes, they're going to prioritize other genres than Rap, because the investment is going to go farther

Until the proof of concept returns with Rap, this is a trend that's only going to continue.

We can start by lessening the amount of gangsta rap and opp rap that's at the forefront. This is probably not the answer tbh but The downward trend will without a doubt continue, so long as the most popping 'new' rappers are niggas of the trenches rap wave.

an actually talented rapper that makes hits would destroy the game right now

like 2004 kanye could do 500K in this climate

Yall gotta stop saying this s*** too cause this is Hip Hop niggas die more often then not and the genre has never experienced this before.

We lost Pac and Biggie then still saw a run of huge artist wit DMX to Jay to Em to 50 and onward.

The equivalent of XXX, JuiceWRLD and Pop Smoke would be like if we lost Kendrick, Drake and Cole in the 2010s before they were able to go on their run.

It's a valid point that the younger generation lost their biggest artists. Uzi and Carti are like the only ones from that era still around

How are blaming Drake for this? He's one of the last rappers still dropping fleshed out projects, doing freestyles, and seems to genuinely enjoy the craft more than the money.

Tierra Whack doesn't care about Tierra Whack enough.

We've been WANTING an actual album from her for literal years I legit think she just doesn't want to do it.

Which is f***ing heartbreaking when this the same person making joints like this

I remember seeing her also voice frustrations the lack of support for her music not too long ago. That might be part of the reason why?

Playboi Carti doesn’t make the same music/have the same image like Lil Baby does

And Lil Baby doesn’t make the same music/have the same image like JID does.

I can’t say the say the same thing for mainstream female rap except for Nicki maybe.

    "JID"

    "mainstream rap"

see how yall move the goalposts?

Like BkTheRula makes the same music/have the same image as a Rapsody.

Or Doja Cat makes the same music/have the same image as a Tierra Whack.

I mean from his era. A lot of these rappers don't feel like they're dropping cohesive projects, just throwing a ton of s*** at the wall and seeing if it sticks. Even CLB for all the memes and 2Sexy was something I spun front to bad and felt like a dope project.

HN might not have been everyone's cup of tea, but that felt like cohesive project.

Pop artist have more diversity then alot of rappers do nowadays not to mention they're far better live performers and better personalities.

Hip Hops issue is having lack of diversity in topics + bad performers + bad people as the artist it's too much.

man in that one drake thread niggas were saying that he was a pretty subpar live performer for an artist of his stature + the amount he was charging for live shows, and then one of these niggas had the nerve to say “he’s a rapper” to excuse it

at the time of their deaths you already were seeing the rise of their peers so the vacuum wasn't as big.

I also don't personally believe in that only cause, a some of those that died you could argue woulda prolly fell off anyways.
