Imagine thinking the issue with rap music is the quality of it, or them making “tik tok records” when

    1) other genres are doing that too

    And

    2) there’s every kind of rap readily available. It’s not hard to find

damn, so repetitive and monotonous lyrics and production can’t be the problem at all you mean to say?

that last sentence about “chasing tiktok success” is so dumb as if it’s the artist fault that the industry heads started prioritizing that platform

    Bandcamp lol

    What's wrong with Bandcamp?

  • hot pancakes

    they are following the money

    Right.

These acts have entire cultures and countries behind them it would be foolish not to

Labels are late to the party in this regard but we’ve been heading towards this for awhile

Rap music boring. Same albums with the same Content with the same features with the same performances on stage with the same fake gangsters and trappers.

Been a long battle, but we finally won at the end

  • Aug 17, 2023

we live in times where audiences expect music to be delivered wherever they go and not something that folk have to research anymore

Rap has become a parody of itself, it’s cosplay at this point

No. Because that’s not all the rap that’s out there lol

The music business is more about the business than the music IYKYK

You think labels give a f*** about any of this s*** lol this is about what sells what moves. It does not matter what kind of rap music is prominent if it can’t generate support

Need more of a positive/upbeat shift and definitely get away from uninspired trap beats

You make points, but 2 things can be right at the same time.

The quality without a doubt has dropped.

Thing is there are so many Rappers not trying to be “Trappers” & Gangsters but they get ZERO shine.

There’s so many female Rappers not showing ass and selling Body, to sell records.

They’ve juiced it for what they wanted now they have to move on to the next.

Could this be any more obvious?

Look how Warp delayed Danny’s album by three years. Look how when Freddie and Benny signed to a major, their albums did not come out on time

How would you be able to prove that the quality has dropped though? That’s mostly opinion (I agree btw)

There is something to be said about rap and the most prominent rap being ‘trenches rap’ and how in 2023, that’s a hard sell at large. That definitely has played a part of this

It’s much harder to sell the popping acts of today from an appeal perspective vs Cole/Kendrick/Drake/Big Sean guys with clean cut images that were making crossover records with appeal

But even with that, it is apparent to me that hip-hop is suffering because they can’t create a new star and part of that is because all the new hot niggas from the trenches and got 1 million opps

Yup. Oh look a new future album.

22 Tracks featuring lil baby, thugga, Travis Scott, Drake , gunna , some singer that imma make the single.

  • All I want are more albums to enjoy. Not putting together songs in hopes that something sticks or just dropping tons of music together for numbers/playlists. I want the art to be taken seriously again in the mainstream.
