Rap has become a parody of itself, it’s cosplay at this point

a nigga like Yeat popping off is pretty much the spitting image of this

    This s*** is by design.

A decade ago the average Black American didn’t care about being from some island and wanting to go to Carnival until they started pushing and selling it.

No. Because that’s not all the rap that’s out there lol

The music business is more about the business than the music IYKYK

You think labels give a f*** about any of this s*** lol this is about what sells what moves. It does not matter what kind of rap music is prominent if it can’t generate support

kk, so why isn’t rap moving?

Can we admit Drake's awful influence on the genre now

I think that him being the number one artist right now just inspires people to be in it JUST for the numbers if anything. When Ye was on top with MBDTF, everyone tried their best to out do that and that’s why we got amazing albums/projects at the beginning of the 2010s

kk, so why isn’t rap moving?

    I just told you why

    It’s the lack of monoculture

If you can’t create new stars, the genre will eventually suffer

There’s soooo many ways to digest music today, that everyone is in their own bubble and as a result, can’t come together to choose a new artist to champion. Labels can’t condition the public to pick new stars because everyone is listening to their own playlists and what not

The fact that all the popping rappers of today are from the trenches are in and out of jail and have opps does not help to be fair. they have 0 crossover appeal but even if they did, it’d be harder

Those other genres still have a monoculture

Can we admit Drake's awful influence on the genre now

    It’s actually the opposite

Part of the reason why rap is suffering is because we don’t have enough rappers like him

The genre took off when rappers were more clean cut, started using melody and making records that could cross over

We don’t really have that anymore with the newer acts

in order for bandcamp to be a use, the artist would need to build a dedicated fanbase that would even goto an obsolete site like bandcamp to purchase their s*** before it would even become remotely useful

It was already becoming Billboard ready when Drake showed up. It's the first time rap has declined and who are the artists running it? Who brought afro and latin pop into rap? Who treats rap like a side hustle? Who is more focused on their demographics than their rap discography?

Drake stopped being that a long time ago and has lowkey took massive influence from the artists we’re referring to though BECAUSE it brings him numbers. However I’m sure he can actually shift that if he wants to but there’s a reason why he hasn’t (honestly nevermind backlash)

Welp this is the perfect time for a paradigm shift. The question is, where do really go from here?

HipHop either needs to shift to party music or push lyrical rappers again.

If what Ebro said is true, it’s the perfect time to bring individuality back to rap since they’re won’t be any pressure from labels to make cheap TikTok hits.

Because the content and image doesn’t glorify ignorance and labels/fans prefer to listen to and promote music that they can’t relate to, so they can seem more hip and in the know.

The same reason why y’all dress the way you do
